Hope this high pressure system gets out of the way. Snow on north-facing slopes above 9500 ft actually skied really well.

Found surprisingly decent turns today in recrystallized facets and sugar snow - N and NW facing around Alta. There were some icy rutted out sections here and there to keep one honest.
The pack seems pretty variable right now. We saw complete bullet proof hardpack, a sun crust with anywhere from 2 to 10 inches of of rotten crumbly sugar underneath, creamy mashed potatoes and dried up loud pow. Could get interesting out there with some significant loading.
High Pressure is out there come Wednesday. Forecast looks like things will be back to normal temps and some snow in the forecast for everyone out that way soon enough! I can't wait, 4 weeks till I'm headed out there. Prayin for tons of snow btw now and then. (But def alot when I do get there)

Did a Main Chute run this morning with whapworth, myskishaveboobs, JTrue, and Dan and Rush(?) (mags?). New snow depth varied with aspects and sheltering. 4-6 inches on the shoulder that was slightly windslabbed to 8+ in the chute. On the way up in spots on the shoulder and in the adjacent trees, there was a layer of sugar under the new snow making for slick skinning. Saw some minor propagation in the new snow off the skin track, but nothing more than several feet. In the chute it was new snow on a hard slick base with very poor bonding. Several sluffs and small soft slabs were set off, but were easily managed and didn't travel far. Careful out there if this second wave of the storm produces additional significant accumulation.
Other than that, we did have some fantastic turns in and under the chute and lucked out with a perfect window of visibility. Might post up some footy if it turned out decent.
Cool, good to hear people were gettin it this morning. That window of sun around 10 had me concerned that we were looking at another fizzler.

Thursday's dry, low density powder remained loose and even started to facet with the clear skies and cold temperatures. Surface hoar grew and persisted through the day even in the sun in this spot.

Skied Main Chute again this morning, then took another lap on the shoulder. No major instabilities noted, slight sluffing. New snow bonded and settled out better then expected. Great day.
heading up tomorrow AM sometime, probably not super early but early enough. who's down?

A few good turns on the N shaded aspect of Clem and good bonding of the low density snow on the hard bed surface on E aspects.

Alta was a lot of fun today. So many people out having a good time on a sunny but cold have-to-get-out and do it sort of day. I rolled up at 11 and the parking lot was full. Skinned up to top of Wildcat. The snow was soft, breakable crust in places. Never hit bottom, so coverage was good where we were. Found a couple untracked shots before getting down. First day of the year and all-in-all pretty good.
cool site hms, everyone should check out wowasatch.com as well, some fucking gorgeous pictures and that dude knows his shit. i'm sure that's been posted many times before but it has some important info so why not post it again. probable change of plans tomorrow, most likely gonna try and ride the lifts for the first time this season at brighton, so let me know if you'll be up there or if you're planning on doing LCC i'd be easily convinced to join.
Still in the sheep pen, but away from the flock. 120cms of glory: compression tests caused the columns to collapse at CT21-Q2 just below the melt-freeze crust lying below the last two rounds of storm snow. It's not sensitive yet, but an avalanche cycle following the next round of storms seems likely to me.
