I cant say much, but, yes there is a new AF system in the works for the new 1 series..... and so far I like it.

one talented cinematographer, two 7d's
[ame="http://vimeo.com/6496808"]jc plus esther // all 7d highlights on Vimeo[/ame]
i don't get how there was only one cinematographer, especially during the vows.
it's doable. just have to do a bit of running around
edit: scratch that, just watched it again and looked at the gear list – all you have to do is set up one cam on a tripod, dial in your settings and set it to record, then float around with the second camera. nothing tricky about it.
^^^ what he said
nevermind. i was confused by the differences in angles at 1:57 and 2:22. but after watching it again, the first one wasn't actually during the vows.
he/she definitely did some running around during that ceremony.
Just put my order in!!!! Very excited to get my hands on this bad boy. 40D with 28-135mm kit lens for sale.
The video shot on those is amazing!
The nite shots are especially impressive.
I dont think i would have wanted to hold out and waited on buying this over my D90 that i got in Jan.
If I was into making artsy short films this would be awesome but im not.
and its prolly gonna be a few more years till i get a 1080p television.
so thank god i have no desire for this camera.
cant say that about the next camera that is a little better then this one, but also a little more affordable.
Great video.
most impressive
darn. now I need to learn how to compose video. that was great.
but isn't it the fact that the video can't utilize the AF, i.e. shooting a skier coming towards you?
If it had a 20 inch lcd and built in wifi then yes, but I'm not upgrading from a 40D to another crop camera that just has more bells and whistles, I'm going 5DmkII if I upgrade and have money
Some great video out of that thing. I wonder how much post was done. The night shots were incredible.
That's what I did – coming from a 20D it made no sense to get another 1.6x sensor-camera as my main shooter (especially when I own full-frame L-glass that isn't being used to it's full potential), so I went with the Mk.II. I'll admit, though, as a second camera this looks mighty appealing...
Friends just got a 7D last night and shot some video. Looks good.
Anybody hear when it's going to ship from Amazon?
Do you know what frame rate your friends filmed that at?
I have a 5D mkII, and I'm trying to decide if I should sell it to get the 60P option in the 7D.
Thanks -
Slow down. Supposedly there's a firmware update in the works for the MkII since TV Asahi (big Japanese private TV Network) is using the MkII as their primary HD Camera for non-ENG production...
Anybody heard about the 7D over heating after a half hour of video?
A guy I work for just bought one and my friend is getting one in a couple of weeks. Stoked to play with them.
AF in video.... *shudder*
I've carried both a FF and a crop body for a number of years and have owned and used almost every 1 series body (1D, 1Ds, 1D2, 1D2n, 1D2s and briefly a 1D3 which I returned due to the much discussed focus issues). It costs a lot to stay at the top of the food chain and not everyone can drop $4k & $7k respectively every couple of years to have the latest in sensor technology. The mid range bodies have improved greatly especially in the last year or so. I decided to take another approach. I sold my 1Ds2 to buy a 5D2, so far very happy. I am ready to sell 1D2n in anticipation of the 7D. Because the camera is also the film I believe it's critical to image quality to stay on the leading edge of the technology. If you don't require the robust build of the 1 series bodies, the mid range bodies have finally arrived and offer a lot more bang for the buck. If/when DPRevew gives it a thumbs up, I'm in.
I picked up the camera today. I really like it. I think if this had been released before the 5Dmk2, I would have kept my original 5D. I don't print landscape stuff large enough to justify 21mp, and the video on the 7D is much better(options, not quality) than on the 5Dmk2. Oh well, the 5Dmk2 still rocks, and certain things like Live View make some shots a lot easier.
Canceled my order on amazon as it was taking too long. Buydig.com has them in stock.
This SUCKS actually, I thought this was the most substantial price and performance breakthrough since like 2004. I have been waiting for full frame PLUS hd video forever. Not that the 7D doesn't look sweet, but I'd either get the d90 or a used FF, and when I heard about the 7D through the usual rumors they told me it was FF.
Why Nikon didn't just include HD video on the d700 is beyond me, as they already did with the d90 earlier or at about the same time.
I am actually livid right now because I was going to pick one up tomorrow to take on the way to a shoot rather than fucking renting more bullshit gear, but back to Adorama and more bullshit throwing money away as usual.
Anyway, I'm probably a JONG here as this like my second photo/video related post but seriously. I am not married to either Nikon or Canon and why neither manufacturer can give me a $2000 FF camera ~15Megapixel with HD video is beyond me. DO IT ALREADY, EVERYBODY IS WAITING.
Ok those videos look amazing.
So today I spent the morning shooting art and architecture with the original 5D and the afternoon doing some headshots. decent glass was used, but not super fancy or super kit.
Anywayz, in terms of image quality, do you think with equal glass the 7D would outperform the original 2k4 5D?
I assume it will be smaller, better battery, features up the wazoo, processor power etc. But will it outperform the original pro but not crazily priced full sensor from many years ago?
I think the general consensus is if you aren't shooting sports or birds, the 5D classic still has the edge. There are a whole host of threads comparing the two on POTN, including high ISO samples and it looks like the 5D still the wins most of the time. Depends on what you shoot most of the time and to a certain extent what lenses you use. If I had the money I'd go for the 7D mainly cause I love my 17-55 f/2.8, and secondly because I'd like to try shooting video too.
Well then, since you are the only person to weigh in here I'd also like to know which would look better with my BILLY GOATS!
Thanks for the input, seriously.
And seriously, why don't we have canon and nikon reps on here? I will show any NE Nikon based rep real goods in Vermont if they can tell me why someone should get the d300s over the 7D with a straight face.
Or they just have to promise a full frame camera with HD video for under 2K in the next 6 months. either way.
7D isn't full frame. 5D Mk2 isn't less than 2k. Not sure what your point is.
