Whatever credibility you thought you had has evaporated.
Fuck off.

Agreed,
Last year my twelve year old did a basic little kid tip over wearing a helmet, thought nothing of it.
Days pass and headaches began, took her to the doc, she had a type 3 concussion. Six months of short term memory problems, periods of blackout, held out of all physical activities for one year...and talk about headaches.
++++vibes++++
But you guys aren't getting it. YSEBB is like a really good skier and not a pussy like Natasha Richardson is (or was).
Typical CYA press release from Intrawest. I further like the part where they also clearly state she was NOT wearing a helmet. Guess they forgot the "saddened by the tragic events, prayers for the family part" and went right to the Lawyer speak, don't sue or butts press release.
Real Classey Intrawest.

This was an interesting video about how these injuries occur and what part of the brain is involved.
I also thought about pre-existing medical problems(injuries, hereditary brain anomalies, and medication) that NR may have had before her fall. Many factors could have exacerbated the injury.
Bottom-line, it could happen to anyone, anytime.
Most celebs I could give a shit about but Richardson-Neesom seem to be of the non-attention-whore-variety of celeb so I feel a little more empathy for them.
Ski buddy bumped her head ten yards into blue run transfer between lifts a couple of weeks ago and even with a helmet on she lost her memory for about five minutes. It was quite cool when she started remembering stuff. It began with her admission that she had eaten all the pear pie left in the fridge.
This story made me think about a journal article about minor head injuries adding up over time. After a while if you have another "minor" concussion, it could resemble a much more serious injury and you could end up drinking out of a straw.
Like many people on this board, I've had my share of concussions, so it is something to think about.
You suck at the internet.
First, "talk and then you die" syndrome: we should only be so lucky that it existed. Especiall for YSEBB. Maybe a "post and then you die" syndrome could arise? Some of the worst injuries I have seen are on beginner trails. Not all but some of the worst.
Second, I'm guessing she had a 'lucid interval' commonly associated with epidural hematomas. They are produced by arterial bleeding and can be very nasty and often fatal. Fatal and nasty I guess can go in the same sentence. A common injury is the site of the head with rupture of the MMA (middle meningeal artery).
Subdural hematomas are far more common and with a lower fatality rate but not associate with a lucid interval.
+++ vibes to Ms. Richardson and her family
The fact is that shit happens on the mountain all the time when you're not expecting it. I've been freaking nailed standing still twice this year by out of control gapers, and a few years back, my toe piece ripped out when I hit a rut back east on a beginner slope straightlining it in at the end of the day, resulting in me shattering my jaw on a patch of ice. That's what they mean by the "inherent risks" of skiing and that's why they call them accidents. Now consider the fact that most skiers intentionally put themselves in a position of significantly increased risk of falling at some point during each ski day when they challenge themselves and their abilities. For some people, that might be most of the time, while for others it might only be a run or two a day. To each their own (except YSEBB who I wholeheartedly agree should never wear a helmet), but if know I should be wearing a lid 70% of each ski day, I'm not going to go naked just so that I don't have to wear one the other 30% of the day.
I will add that many times each season a helmet has saved me from the profoundly retarded individuals who slam down the chair safety bar without asking or warning me first. For those chairs with foot rests, I may start to wear a cup too.
It's possible to have a "lucid interval" with a SDH as well as a EDH.
Vibes to the family. And to the poor instructor! Imagine having your student - any student, regardless of fame - get critically injured during their very first lesson.
Horrible news for these people and their family. Anything can happen and it's just the way life throws shit at you. For a child like YSEBB, the world seems like a neat-O place where only bad things happen to stupid people he's never met. Give him a couple more decades to watch people he cares about die when they didn't deserve to. Life can be really shitty sometimes and that's when you start to grow up and appreciate what you have for what it is.
Is it time now to ban YSEBB? Can we take some kind of poll?
Vibes to the lady...
Watch out, Her hubby is gonna wreak havoc on you!

Acording to TMZ...She was Removed from life support at 1:30 Today.
No, I think he finds it hard to believe that you would refuse to suck anyone's cock.
HTH
not trying to start anything more than has already been started, but you all fucking suck at posting about anything serious. If you all would just realize that if you ignore the trolls, they will stop posting, none of this would ever happen.
^^agreed. this thread could get back on track if the focus were placed where it belongs. thoughts and prayers for friends and family. please ignore the troll. there will be other more appropriate threads to flame him. feeding them gives them life.
Seriously sad stuff. FWIT, some Dr. said that a helmet wouldn't necessarily have helped in this type of injury. Thoughts to the family.
This is really sad. I really feel especially for her son who was there with her. How traumatic that must have been for him. :(
It sucks how life can throw these type of curveballs at us. This is very unfair. I wish she'd had a chance to enjoy skiing the way we have here instead of this horrible twist of fate. I'm sure she would have loved it...
I was at my chiropractor today and we talked a bit about this incident. He said it does not take much to cause a traumatic brain injury. It's all in how you hit your head and where you hit it. Just an unlucky situation.
Anyway, blaming and shaming (and bickering) does nothing. A person was lost who was loved by her family. What a tragedy...
Sprite
Just announced on CNN that she has passed. Very sad.
This is so unusual.
++++vibes++++ to all involved.
Helmets......
RIP
why is this news?
the only good thing about the whole affair is now the USAians that care more about "celebritys" (who was she again) can forget about their craptacular mortgage crisis...
Her family's loss is Talk and Then Die Syndrome awareness' gain.
RIP.
Wonder how long before resorts require helmets for all instructors and those taking lessons. Surely they don't provide much protection if you slam into a tree at moderate speeds, but I'm sure this incident and many others alike could have resulted more favorably.
At times I take my monoski out to Keystone.
This puts me skill-wise, about in the middle of the pack with the rest of the skiers there.
Going roughly the same speed as the rest of the mid-westerners down schoolmarm is nothing short of wicked dangerous.
I think most of us slalom through the gapers instead of skiing with them at their speed. This is definitely safer. (skiing faster than those most likely to run into you is a great thing)
I believe good skiers tend to forget how much different (and dangerous) the ski experience is for those not so accustomed to it.
+++++vibes+++++ to this lady....she died doing something most of us live for. :(
I really can't believe that they don't require staff (instructors/ski patrol/mountain safety/mountain guides) to wear helmets all the time. I think the Whistler Kids program requires helment, only because I have never seen a kid with a bib not wearing one. They should even let the instructors get commision on helemt sales, just have then hand out 15% off helmet coupons with a bar code tied to their name.
I don't know if they rent helmets or not, I haven't been in the rental area in a long time.
