SLC is sick, so so sick. I'd move to Sandy too, I think some mags live in that area. Good luck, SLC needs more east coasters out there to keep it real.
950\month won't get you a house, but you could probably look into the 150-175 range for a townhouse\condo.
Sandy is fine if you aren't going to have a life outside of skiing. I moved to Sugarhouse from Cincinnati 2 years ago and I honestly don't miss a thing. All the bars worth going to are a short walk/drive/cab ride away. The people are relatively normal by back east standards. The one thing you will have to learn to live with is people driving like absolute shit heads. I have to have a 15 minute chill down everytime I drive home from work because it is so frustrating. Definately look in the Sugarhouse area though.
