to do what you say, the trick would be to leave the ski the same, and make the tail narrower so it has less dominance over the skis tracking.
I agree that the development of the new LP seems pretty weird.

That sounds like an *awesome* next iteration of that ski.
That V notch is probably most likely exactly as you describe it, a way to tailor the ski to have a softer longitudinal flex whilst maintaining a torsionally stiff ski. If that new LP has that as well, its pretty much fixes both minor minor complaints I have about the current 186.
One more Q, flat, raised, or twin'd tail?
If the ski turns out as is described here, Id probably goto the local store and just buy one at their "retail" (generally like 30% off MSRP).
Pending the answer of the tail question, guess im a bit bummed about the 184 length as 186 just feels perfect for me, but whatever, its just a couple cm.
Me likey 184.
I prefer the current 97mm underfoot, but these revised dimensions start to make some sense.

128-100-117 and 184? Sounds cool, but also looks like they took the 184 B-Squad mold and tweak it just a bit in the tip and tail. Also, since my LP's measure in at 182-cm (tape not push down on the ski), I wonder how the new 184 will measure...more like a 180?
Either way, cool to see they are still playing skis like this in the development room.

The 187 Legend Pro XXL's will not be released in the US this year anymore. The person I spoke with, product development, didnt know exactly why, but that was what the notes said.
However, they are getting the 09 LP XXL's in January. The 09 Legend Pro XXL's will be offered in a 187, and will be the same spec's as this year. Just a new topsheet.
The LP's will be revised to a 100mm waist though, but no changes on the XXL besides cosmetics.

I think you'r right. Even though the current LP is a killer ski, the fact that it's changing in shape - wider - will probably make a lot of buyers wait for the new one. I bet we'll see them at Snowbird & ALta. Snowbird has a huge Legend Demo center and is a big partner with Dynastar. I'll definitely post more beta & some pics when I get them.Quote:

I bent the tip on one of the 05-06 skis and found the 07-08 skis at a local swap the next fall. At the time I didn't really know what the vintage on the 07-08 skis were as they appeared quite different visually, but still felt pretty beefy (especially with PX18s).
Wondering if anyone can summarize the differences between the two other than what I already know, and believe me, I've looked through every damn thread with "legend" in the title.
05-06 - OG race room construction, these are the bench mark. Have a backup pair that is unmounted and another pair of 194s that get brought out when conditions permit.
07-08 - Clearly the top sheet graphic changed. I know they went to a production assembly rather than hand made race room. Read that top sheet corners/edges were rounded/beveled to address chipping issues, and it seems like these have that feature as well as a resin like finish near the edges of the top sheet that seems pretty durable. Width and camber/rocker profile seem to be the same as the 05-06. I'm not able to see evidence of a metal layer like in the 05-06 which is easily visible from the sidewall. However hand flexing both skis side by side would lead me to believe that it's still there in all its glory. So, did anything change performance/construction wise on these?
That's 06/07 i'm pretty sure. 07/08 is the black fleur de lis with the orange tips and faux woodgrain tail. I'm pretty sure the 06/07 and 07/08 are the same ski though
I believe that the second gen was mellowed out a bit, enough that we were all disappointed that it got neutered. It was still a solid ski for sure, more so in the 190 length. The Legend XXL was introduced and took over as the charger for most people.
The xxl was 109mm and 37m (187)/41m (194) radius vs same year lpr was 97mm and 29m (186)/32m (194). I never skied the og race room lpr's, but I understand they were the burliest. But the 07/08 (and identical 06/07) lpr's that I skied were definitely still stiffer and burlier than the similar length xxl's. I have owned a 187 xxl for 16 years now, but I demoed 07/08 186 lpr's and 194 xxl's back to back and found even the 194 xxl's slightly easier than 186 lpr's in tight spaces and bumps at snowbird. I remember it like it was yesterday... a defining ski day of my life and the reason I skied dozens of 10x chargers since (and still own that xxl as my oldest ski by far). Then they changed the lpr the next year to 100mm and 24m (184)/27m (190) and when I demoed that ski the next year against my xxl's they had significantly throttled it and everyone got off that koolaid and we all took a big dump... until the 105 lpr, which made lpr great again in the people's eyes. I bought the 192 105 lpr with no demo and found it way burlier than the 100mm lpr but still a sliiight step back from my xxl (and by extension also the 06/07 and 07/08 lpr) in it's abilities, so i sold the 105. It was way closer to the older lpr's, but it mainly introduced a touch of rocker and the low rise tip (vs the skateboard ramp abrupt tips of the previous versions)Quote:

Came here to answer EorB’s conundrum but have nothing to add that hasn’t been said. Skied both of these, preferred the OG LP over the neutered version. Put a shit ton of days on them. Still have a pair of dream sickles sitting in the rack.
