There is an application that comes with it for the PC. I am unsure of how it works. For a Mac it comes with a link to a plugin called Purian. Purian is self proclaimed "The swiss army knife for Quicktime". Once installed, quicktime just reads the avi. Quicktime will just play the file back at native size and speed. In FCP, if you are putting into say a DVCpro 1080i60 timeline, just typical render times apply rendering something from a different codec.
