There is an application that comes with it for the PC. I am unsure of how it works. For a Mac it comes with a link to a plugin called Purian. Purian is self proclaimed "The swiss army knife for Quicktime". Once installed, quicktime just reads the avi. Quicktime will just play the file back at native size and speed. In FCP, if you are putting into say a DVCpro 1080i60 timeline, just typical render times apply rendering something from a different codec.Quote:

There are MUCH MUCH better options on the horizon.
If $900 is too steep, may I suggest a www.sportzshot.com helmet cam coupled with the Aiptek A-HD 720 High Definition Camcorder. The picture quality and frame rate is excellent for a SD card based recorder. Easy 1-button recording, direct connections without any adaptors, can record to 4gb HC Class 6 SD cards, and all for $370-$450.
So any insight into what these so called MUCH MUCH better options are?
Because currently I don't think anyone can argue that the POV.1 is the best thing on the market currently.

The fact the he owns sportshotz might have something to do with it. The old rig worked well but it had serious issues with a rats nest of cables and plugs that all too easily got fuxored leaving you with a days worth of audio and no video and the like not to mention the horrid battery life in the cold.Quote:

Truth, you are referring to the first generation helmet cam. That's how they all were years ago and most competitors products are still that way. We are currently on our 3rd generation product and if you took the time to do some current research you'd find that our cable configuration is slick as snot when comparing similar products.
And I feel compelled to add that you are wrong about our battery pack. Last year during that cold spell (-8 deg.) we were getting 4hrs continuous use from it without heat packs. I'll put that up against any competitors power source.
2stix, I wish I could give you more information about it, but I can't. But it won't be ready this winter.
The POV.1 is definitely taking it to the next level and I give kudos to the fellas at VIO for pulling it off. They've set the bar but I honestly have to say Sportzshot isn't going to have any problem raising that bar MUCH higher.

I want to get a helmet cam aswell, and did a bunch of research. I came down to two finalists, The viosport 1 thingie and the dogcam with the 500r recorder.
they are roughly the same price, the dogram recorder is a harddrive so it has 30 or 60 gb space, but methinks a harddrive sucks more power, and is more prone to damage. but I can use that to watch Tentacle porn on the way to univ every day on the bus aswell.

That viosport recorder looks like you can cover it in shit and toss it off a mountain without even making it smell bad.
But I like the dogcamera aswell, and the videos on their page are good quality. Guess it will all boil down to which company will write Gift less than 100 dollars on the freight note so customs won't make me get into male prostitution.....

wicked, thanks for that link. I had come across dogcam a year ago, but they slipped my mind when i was doing my research this time around. They seem to be solid lip stick cams and the their own dvr recorder seems to be better that the one included in the viosport pov 1. The dogcam setup seems less user friendly, but it still small, lanc compatible and high quality.
Anyone have a chance to use the new dogcam setup. I worry that the viosport pov.1 is not intended for super high speeds (skiing), while dogcam's new lipstick cam is high speed specific and the dvr has beter resolution? Also, CMOS sensor in the viosport vs. CCD in the dogcam. Any thoughts? I am about to pull the trigger, but after having a crap set up last year, I want to be more informed.

The Vio camera is 720 lines, Dogcam 540. The recorder will record up to 720. Their is a difference.
The vio recorder has no moving parts, dogcam high speed spinning hard drive.Their is a 800r version of the recorder that has a flash drive for recording and a hard drive for storage, and is an even better design but still fails to compair.
The vio has built in mic, Dogcam has seperate mic.
The vio has one solid connector cable and a wireless remote. Dogcam has 3 including remote.
The vio uses AA easily sourced and replaced or use rechargable. Dogcam use some cheap camera battery, Very specific and not as easily replaced.
Overall the Dogcam is a great leap forward from the handicam and battery pack and rats nest, but is still not in the same league as the Vio.
Just to let you know the Dogcam has been available for almost 2 years now, it is not a "New" thing.
Just wanted to make sure that you knew you are not compairing apple to apples.
