He's not sure how many skis he'll make this year. He's making bank working in the AB oilfields these days and really wants to compete more on the circuit while he's young enough to give 'er.
Irie, sounds like you've seen the old threads, and now know the, uh, scoop on Goode. After reading the soap opera that was drake*boinay, you prolly now realize that Goode is perhaps less-than-good as a business partner. That's all water under the bridge, and Stephan remains a good guy putting out great designs nowadays, so I'll add my vote to the crowd endorsing him.
I will add that I have a pair of Wailers, though they are actually the old design, and therefore more similar to the Goode 95, now that Goode has the molds on Drake and Boinay's original designs. I do love the skis, for their power, stability at speed, stiffness (they're the stiff flex) and light weight. They're also great for touring, being fantastically light, though they're not as quite as light as Goode advertises. It's pretty well established that Goode's advertised weights are overly optimistic, based on actual weights taken by many people, including shop owners who carry his skis.
As for snapping skis, both Goodes and drake*boinays (contracted by Goode at the time) had durability problems after production was moved to China, at least in the early stages. There definitely were several bad batches of skis made, due to the complicated nature of the carbon fiber layup process not being mastered in the early runs, and quality control issues were a large part of why db went under. My Wailers actually replaced a pair of Surreals (essentially the same ski) that I snapped in half doing regular everyday skiing at Kookwood. I already suspected the Surreal that broke was one from the bad batches as I'd ripped out a binding earlier in the season. So far my Wailers are holding tough, and I'm crossing my fingers that they were laid up correctly, but count me as another who encountered a problem with the Goode-produced skis.
I should add here that Stephan was more than generous in trying to do right by me after my Surreals broke, despite the fact his company had recently separated from Goode, and he was struggling to get dp off the ground in the aftermath. Not wishing to further tax Stephan's small startup business, I approached Goode about replacing the broken ski - long story short, I ended up buying the Wailers (though at a discount) from Goode (from his lefover stock), as he wouldn't commit to a full guarantee for a ski that broke due to poor manufacturing on his company's part.
I also have a pair of Tabla Rasas from the original year (where the carbon fiber was laid up meticulously as the company was just getting started and production runs were small). They've been completely and totally bomber through a lot of abuse, so I know the carbon fiber design itself is solid, so long as the quality control is there. Since breakage was a key problem in the past, I am certain that Stephan is making every effort to make sure it will not haunt the skis in the future, and the switch to wood sandwich core was almost certainly part of this process. I haven't skied on the new woodcore version of the Wailer, though I believe Stephan who considers them actually better skis.

you could go with a dp Lotus 120 -- which comes in a 178. dimensions are 140/120/125 (unless they've tweaked it this year), and they weight much lighter than a Spat (and probably way lighter than a Pontoon, too). Worth looking at, particularly considering the generally undistinguished Pontoon reviews (in terms of performance + durability).
i think the 120 is an itneresting shape...so much so that i'm going to try one of those AND a 138 (and some Bros, too). yikes.

it IS a tough call between the 138s & 120s. Could you commandeer Britney's Spats (if she does get something else)? If so, then maybe the 120 (different shape) is the way to go. Either way, it's a good dilemma.
