Try living in pinedale and walking across those streets. I lived there for over a month a few summers ago. You've got to understand that it gets swamped with tourists and that it seems every person from out of state speeds through town. This isn't SLC or Denver where you get to run 15 over all the time.
edit: slowing down also applies to I-80 in wyoming, if nothing else because there is no on-ramp space and the HP's tend to stay 15 to 20 miles on either side of the towns.
edit2: for that matter speeding on 191 is pretty much useless anyway. You get held up by campers, boats, oilfield trucks, and HP's / sheriff's watch the road very closely. A huge volume of traffic on that road...if you want to speed, go through Big Piney and Fontenell, after the road is done.
edit3: What's that about your dog? Exactly how were you in violation?
Figtht it. Go to court plead not guilty, show up a court date, if the cop shows, which I doubt have the judge and cop walk out and look at the plate. If you reaaly want to piss the jong off, make him bring a copy of his eye glasses perscription. He is probably blind and vane and doesn't wear glasses. In Calif. you can do it all by mail, just mail a picture of the plate showing how easy it is to read the numbers.

I got a ticket for going 71 in a 65 on the Northway/I87 in NY. Fuckin' over-taxed, over-funded EC states hire so many cops that they have nothing to do but fuck with you for stupid shit. Back in NY, you can't get around the block with a cracked windshield, in CO, everyone has one.
In the 65mph section you don't see many cops, I drive about 50 miles on that road nearly everyday to work/lake george about 4 times a week doing 15 to 20 over and haven't had a problem. I cruise by at 75 on the radar without a problem, I'm gonna have to say shitty luck.Quote:

I got a ticket going back to school the monday after easter this spring. I was on I-89 right before the rt. 2/ Burlington exit. In that area there is a bend right after a random 10mph drop in the speed limit, and this guy was sitting in the median and pulled me over while i was in traffic, i deserved the ticket i was doing 70 in a 55, but the process was the interesting part. The cop came to my window and before asking for my licence and registration he asked if i had "anything i shouldn't" in my car, which is a large red mini van (yeah, i'm a winner) . He took my licence and registration and then asked me to join him in his patrol car, so i did, after a pat down. When we got into the car he called my info in and then told me that he'd rip up my ticket if i told him of anything illegal going on, on campus. Is this guy was in the running for the biggest dousche in the universe, or is this a normal thing to do to a college kid speeding in a red minivan?
I speed all the damn time but am exceptionally lucky and haven't yet been pinched. When i do get pinched i'll be due and accept my fine only after trying to bullshit my way out of it. I was caught recently buy some back woods cop in Wenham, Ma while I still had my AZ tags. I was sort of lost but I found the windy roads fun and was zipping a bit. almost 47 in a 35. I had maps and shit all over the front seat(obviously not sure on directions) and tinted windows you couldn't see thru thanks to AZ. I've was super polite and upon cops arrival i explained I was a bit paniced due to being lost and always obey the posted speed and would really appreciate a warning or any leniency. He comes back with a warning and then jaws a bit about AZ etc etc. Really nice.
I get pulled over about once a year for some boneheadedness and i've found that almost all the cops i deal with, with the exception of one biatch in AZ, are very polite and professional and aren't out to try to jam me up. Again though, i drive a stationwagon.
The map "thing" has got me thinking though, it took him from the normal routine to asking where i was going. Half way thru i knew i was getting a warning.
Roll down your window as soon as you see the lights come on, keep your hands on the wheel as hte officer approaches, do not deny whatever it is they stopped you for, do not make excuses, apologize a lot and use the word "sir" as many times as you can possibly fit it into each sentence and you will almost always get slack cut for you.
I was pulled for 61 in a 30 which would have been reckless driving a few weeks ago and he gave me 39, which isn't even a point. It kinda sucked because we had just come into the 30 zone from a 50 and I was just trying to get past this car that had been going 10 mph under the speed limit for the previous five miles, so I may have been going 61 for about two seconds, but them's the breaks.
Agreed on contesting it. Here the best scenerio is the cop doesn't show, and the worst case is that the charge can be plead down.Quote:

Total damage: $150 and 3 points for the speeding, $65 for the insurance card.
I went to court and the cop showed up, but I was able to convince the ACA to drop the insurance card charge if I plead guilty to "99 in an 80". New total damage: $80, 1 point.
That will get you slack if you are at least 30 and driving a station wagon, but not for a 22 year old in a rice rocket.Quote:

A cop is going to give you a ticket for x because you have done a, b and c at some other time. Right.... It usually works out that you get a ticket for what you've done. That's how that shit goes down...Quote:

Anyway, I think I pointed out in my original post that I wasn't actually speeding in anything more than in a technical sense. The fact that you seem to be preaching to me bothers me slightly, since I am an extremely strict driver, and always slow down for speed zones, plus or minus a few feet here or there.Quote:

DO NOT DO THIS! On several occasions, my officer friends have told me that in their minds, "he apologized" equals "he's guilty". Denying that it was you who was speeding puts doubt in the officer's mind. Did I have the radar gun aimed at this car or the one next to it? Is it calibrated correctly? To me, losing the chance to get off with a warning by apologizing (rarely happens in my area anyway, esp staties) is completely worth being able to have plausible deniability.Quote:

That and don't say "Nice boots. I didn't know they made those for men!"
The most insulting ticket I ever received was when I passed a dumptruck from which a cinder block had just fallen out of and cracked my windshield. I was cited for speeding, crossing a double yellow line, and for faulty equipment (my cracked windshield). Needless to saw, the judge say it my way.
WRONG.Quote:

They also drive their personal cars when they're not working. This is when they see pizza delivery drivers and what not speeding, blowing traffic lights, etc. The cops remember that shit when they're on patrol and see you. It's a matter of you fucking up too many times, and then the pizza delivery driver wonders why..........That's how that shit goes down.
I've heard that too, but the few times I've talked my way out of a ticket started off with something along the lines of:Quote:

He said he appreciated the honesty and issued me a warning for the red light and a $10 fixit ticket for not being able to provide proof of insurance.
...but the coolest cop has to be the guy that pulled me over at the KW parking lot, the two questions he asked were:
"Do you know why I'm pulling you over?"
"I'm sorry Officer. It's a powder day, I got a little excited"
"I see you have a Kirkwood sticker on the back, so you must be familiar with the driving conditions around here especially during a snowstorm. Are you a skier or snowboarder?"
"I'm a skier, officer"
(Officer Friendly looks at the truck bed and eyeballs the skis)
"Well I'll let you off with a warning. Enjoy the powder and drive safely! I've already had to pull out 4 cars from spinning out this morning."
I think if you just act chill, be honest, polite and respectful, then the cop (if he/she's cool) will be more likely to give you a break. If you start denying shit that was blatantly obvious then that will probably piss them off and more reason for them to write you up.
