mac internet security?

Welcome to the Mac world. I have never used any virus protection (not even the firewall) since I got a Mac laptop 3 years ago and I've never had a single problem.

That might change in the future but the Mac world is pretty safe for now.

Ok, now that's just stupid. Macs may be very resistant to virii, but they're definitely not hack proof. A firewall goes a long way towards preventing the latter. Why don't you just let someone into your home and give them the password to your computer while you're at it?

seems like good tips here, or common sense tips here...i try to be pretty conscious of what i am or am not fumbling up.

aside from the firewall and ftp....with macs, anything else that should or should not be....checked or implemented..............arty..anyone?

Oh and I never had a problem with my pc in 4 years either, and I've been known to spend a fair amount of time on the net. But I had two firewalls, MS Antispyware (good call likwid), Spybot, AdAware, CCleaner, and more, which is why I was feeling a bit naked.

I didn't see it mentioned, but try and understand what is happening when you are entering your admin password during installs, file deletion, etc. If it asks you for your password, it's because system level(not user folder area) changes are being made and it wants you to make sure you know what you are doing.

I actually had to pass one of these to use a US Forest Service computer last summer. Total bullshit.

Just curious...anyone know what percentage of users of TGR are on Macs? Does it go up in the evening when everyone gets off work and checks in from home?
