If it's later in the week, I might be up to it. If I can make a reasonable connection from Verb. Though not certain if I can track this thread on the road.

I'm leaning towards thursday to avoid any crowds at all...
I'm making a guess that there will be no powder inbounds at all so most of the main areas will be boiler plate pistes by then ...
The weather should be good if a little cold so a mer du glace mission and/or a bit of touring looks to be the order of the day. If so, we're going to need some locals to show us the way...
i have never skinned in the cham valley , only alpined there ... i have touring equipment and a mellow skin in the sunshine would be nice ....
I'm still hoping for a mad snow dump to happen but its looking less and less likely.
Updated roll call :
Wildstyle
Lostinthetrees
Ripzalot ? tentative due to injury
Hayduke
Train07
Mrs roo - Apres drinks only as its a school night/week
redskea - work dependant
idris - work dependant
Mulletizer - dependant ....
BAILED - Tectonically_neglected -- BAILED until march summit ?
TeleAl
hemas - tentative
BBirtle - tentative ... deffo beers
Horizon - in the area, still tracking down.
Glaciar tours including Vallee Blanche still need a little more snow for the General Everybody although it is possible and could be nice if it snows signifigantly more. Requires a signifigant amount of gear rental all around and the guide assumes quite some responsibility... but if the weather and conditions pan out I can lead you all on a non-glaciated ski tour or at least point you in the right direction. Just have to see what the skies bring!
and time is money. get back to work, minion.Quote:

It's looking like I might miss most of you out there (other than beers hopefully) due to my departure on 26. I almost hesitate to list the equipment i am bringing but i don't relish going thru the rental scene and don't wish to get left behind. I also don't have time right now to send a bunch of pms..maybe later. I say I hesitate because other than trekkers and skins my experience with said equipment puts me in newbie territory (notice lack of jerk off). If my host cannot spend all his time entertaining me (and after two days he may find reasons not to:) ), then i will be in search. My list so far is this: Da kine Frontier pack
BCA tracker beacon
Trekkers and skins
BD crampons
Raven pro axe
Probe
Shovel
Explosivs
My host is suggesting renting a international cell phone...anybody do this?
I'm doing my snow dance... hope to catch up.
As far as the phone, you just need a tri/quad band phone and a geek to unlock it, then just buy yourself a prepaid SIM card for around $50 and plug it in, done.
I think if any touring does happen during this summit, it won't be the glaciated type so just bring the basic touring gear and avo stuff (and of course know how to use it).
It's snowing buckets now but keep dancing - the more the better.
:D i feel like the elder version of Max Gosey
Alright, I'm calling it Monday.
Monday anyone?
i'm getting confused when you guys don't use dates.....and uh, i would like to claim somebody stole my login for that previous post of mine ... uh..i mean not mine
I messed up the dates. My fault. I do that often. Just say no.
Monday is my best day.
All this is next week, not this week.
Alright, I am good to ski Monday or Thursday.
Just got an update from maggot who ain't showing.
How will I know when people want to meet for beers? Will we have a cell number swap or what? 'Tis a big valley, even maggots could miss each other.
pm sent Mrs roo
If teleal is going to be in cham on monday, I'll try and make it into cham for monday to take advantage of some good snow..... but this is completely dependant on snow conditions in the grand massif.
If its v.good there, i will be staying put .....
thursday of that week is still looking like the most likely day for the summit though ...
My Call: Thursday 26th (arrive ~8 AM to meet everyone and bolt a grand cafe and croissant.)Quote:

Megeve anyone? What about that Flerge-thing?
I rented one of those international cell phones which is not a bad deal as long as I don't make any calls or receive any calls:D
trying to get my shit together to send this number out...lots to do tonight and tomorrow am
all right ...i just did a blitz pming and don't think i'll be on much more
i leave tomorrow ..be in Cham 20 - 26....if i missed ya on pm stuff sorry i'm rushing.
cheers train, we'll try and just send you txt messages to keep your costs down.
see ya in cham.....
I'm gonna head that direction on Jan 26 or 27, exact date still pending. If on the 26 I prolly could hook up with you for beers or even some turns the other day as long as hangover isn't too bad. Will keep it posted on here.
Thursday 26th's good for me.
Still here...check your pm wildstyle....no need for text i'm illiterate. If anyone is interested in this phone deal ( I heard ya bbirtle but i don't know any geeks to unlock anything and my phone is incompatible vintage)....i set it up thru verizon/WorldRoam...basically it will cost $52 for the six days I'm there($4/day and it cost $28 to have it shipped to me). All calls are $1.49/minute and any calls i receive in the states on my normal cell # will be forwarded free except for air time. I can't afford to be out of touch with a dad who is squeaking out his last years.
Seriously....never did text... don't know shit about it and am not shaving pennies on this trip.
train07 - text messaging is the way to go in Europe, because it's like $0.25 to send one and usually free to receive.
As far as the unlock, if you're going to do international travel fairly often, try to get a tri/quad -band phone that supports SIM cards the next time you get a new phone. I think most of the mid to high end ones do. Then it takes 10 minutes in the nearest phone shop and $10-40 when you arrive in Country X to get a prepaid system and a local phone number. Won't work out much cheaper on this trip of yours, but if you stay a couple weeks on the next trip it sure will.
The bastard phone companies always "lock" your phone so that you can't change SIM cards though... so then you need to find a way to get it unlocked. Sometimes after you have the phone for a year they will unlock it for you, other times you can find somebody to do it for you, or search on the Internet.
So, beers are on you & expense account then?;)Quote:
