isn't it a backflip with a twist though? or at least a 1/2 twist? that is defintely more that just a backflip.

He twists 90 degrees, which is a quarter twist.Quote:

I guess it's a backflip with a 1/4 twist to hit the rail.
Yes, this would be called a "gainer" or "reverse dive" in diving. A back dive in diving is one where your back is toward the pool, so that would translate to a switch takeoff in skiing...but I don'think the terminology crosses the two sports. I never heard about Greg Louganis doing a "Lincoln Loop" for example!
He doesn't start switch.Quote:

here's the pitch, a nice slow curve out over the middle of the plate...
Yeah, I know. All I'm saying is Ireallyliketoski is correct that this wouldn't be called a back flip in diving, it would be a gainer.Quote:

This all came from the thread where someone suggested practicing on a diving tower, I think. I think we can just say the terms used in springboard diving and skiing are different :)
Oh my aching head. Make it stop. Make me stop.Quote:

Alright. I'll stop.
That's a really odd place to find a rail.
im not impressed until i see a backflip to frontflip. now thats sick! :D
Would a switch backflip to front flip suffice? One of the Schrabs threw one in a comp awhile back. The footy showed up in a few ski movies.
Ski Movie II in the "minor threat" chapter. (right near the end.)Quote:

That was the US Open at Vail a couple of years ago at the Big Air Contest. I was standing on the deck 30 feet away from him when he did it. Probably the sickest thing I've ever seen done on skis in real life. I mean, I haven't been on a "buss" with "Tannor" but it was still pretty sweet.Quote:

George Hjelte. Did something fairly close. Did damn near sickest thing I've ever seen. Except Lawn Dart attempt to Backflip. Here's the situation.
Mammoth, California. Sessioning the biggest windlip ever. We were 16. Straightlining at 40 into a near vert lip with a landing that dropped away forever. George hit the kicker first and did the biggest laid out back I've ever seen. But the jump was so fucking huge he overrated to his neck. I threw a double, laid out the first, tucked the second and still overrated. I'm telling you this jump was huge. So Georgey decides to go for a Rob Holmes-esque lawn dart. Warning: Do not try lawn darts of near vert lips. But he still went for it and got heels over head but then stalled out. Got stuck completely in Superman position and then the crazy fucker decides to abort the lawn dart and go for a backflip. So at the peak of his jump he, completely stalled out, arches his head back like no one's business and brings around a backflip. Puts it down to his feet, but in what I believe pure shock that he wasn't dead, lays it down on his hip. I know this sounds unfeasible, but I and a bunch of other people saw it and declared it one of the gnarliest things we've ever witnessed.
*now back to the freestyle walker/jackass/"skier", Jon McMurray.
Note the quoted skier.
A couple years ago I remember seeing one of the schrab brothers do a fakie backflip to frontflip at a redbull huckfest. It was real gnarly.Quote:

Other pretty new rail sickness: Tanner is now throwing 630s to rails. There's video of it on Armadas website.
Yep we have a winner,
It appeared in powderhound,I think it may've been Berchold or whatever his name is.
oh and is brett's clown avatar giving folls food for thought?
