Yee-haw. That speeds things up quite a bit.

I had the settings in the first two steps already in place. I just needed to add a “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set my "browser.turbo.enabled" to "True" (it already existed and was set to false).

I installed the "tweak network connections" extension and set firefox to power mode. When I went to load my first page, I clicked and that instant my house blacked out. No power. Just silence.

I'm impressed.

this is sweet. even sped up page scrolling. still slow with typing though - like typing this right now is slow. oh well.

i think the wigging avatars on the side slow it down.

I'm using Fasterfox. Works quite well and blocks pop-ups initiated by Flash. You can easily bump the speed down if you run into problems.

I've been using fasterfox at home for a while now. Works ok, but I don't notice much of a difference in speed.

I like the different themes and the gmail shortcut as far as add-on's.

Yeah, I've messed with this setting. The only problem is that the higher the requests you specify the more ram firefox starts sucking up. If you have a couple tabs open it can start taking hundres of megs of ram.

I was using firefox but videos were not loading properly. Every time I loaded a vid I had to right click then zoom to 100% so that I could see anything. Mozilla doesn't do that to me.

jong firefox question

So, for quite awhile now I haven't been able to use Firefox for TGR. I can see the page but no photos or avatars, and I can't post or reply. This just happened one day and I haven't been able to fix it. I'm a total computer jong so I probably just don't know how. I checked for firefox updates and the computer said there weren't any. I downloaded the extension from the link Arty posted but it didn't do anything as far as this website goes.

Anyone have any ideas? Should I kill firefox and redownload (how would I do that)? Or just keep using explorer for this site?

The tradeoff with the maxrequests hack is that it hammers the server.

Setting it to something a bit more conservative, such as 4 or 6, would still get you a speed increase without beating up on webservers (such as TGR's) quite as badly but you guys won't give a shit about that. *shrug*

if they give you an error message (i.e. browser not supported or some other such), try the user agent switcher and try identifying your browser as IE6. its amazing how often a developer will go to the trouble of identifying and blocking firefox when their site works tolerably well with it.

also, as someone pointed out elsewhere, identifying yourself as googlebot can sometimes get you past mandatory registration (like for news sites).

i like the firefix features but it really is slow. is there any reason why having several tabs open would be slower than having several pages open? i have 4 tabs open right now and can notice a substantial delay in seeing this text as i type it. i was using safari before and it was way faster.

Due to User History caching, I believe : the last 25 sites per tab are fully cached, IIRC.

That is correct. You can also turn this "feature" off by setting browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers to "0" in about:config.
