When I heard that 4Frnt and Hoji were working on a more firm snow oriented ski, I got my hopes up that it would be a mid-90’s waist version of the Raven with a slightly flatter rocker profile. The ski they ended up releasing is cool, and will no doubt be a great option for a lot of folks, but it’s not particularly innovative or exciting.
Yet another reason the HL C90 is one of the coolest touring skis available right now!

I find it a bit strange that the Nevar lengths are the exact same as the Raven and Hoji (170, 177, 184, 190)?
The Ravens and the Hojis ski short..... eg I like ~180cm length skis and the 184 Hojis and Ravens are perfect.
Would have thought the Nevar lengths would be something more like 174, 180, 187? The effective edges are longer on the 184 Nevar vs 184 Hoji? I know cause it's cambered. Just seems weird that the skis are the exact same lengths, given the different profiles.

Kc, I like you, but you're not making much sense now. As the Nevar is a cambered ski, it probably, by design, has a longer effective edge -EE- (meaning widest point front to widest point rear) than either of the older hoji designs, which are all heavily tapered, and as such have shorter effective edges. EE as a ski design attribute has very little to do with reverse camber or regular camber, it's a metric, as pointed out in my parenthesis.Quote:

Haha. Point taken. I get that the effective edge is longer on cambered skis. Which is why I thought a 184 Raven to 184 Nevar sizing was not an apples to apples comparison. But I trust Hoji knows what he’s doing and who his market is.
Here’s a Nevar story from this weekend….
This past Sunday I’m happily skiing down Chunky Choice bumps in packed pow on my Renegades. I stop just before the last pitch beside a guy who I see is skiing 4FRNT Ravens. We have the obligatory 4FRNT chat about how good the Hoji Trinity skis are. He then asks if I’ve heard of Hoji’s new touring ski, the Nevar? I say yup. He says I think it's kind of an opposite Raven with camber. Sure. Then….. just as I’m dropping in to catch up to my buddies he looks at me and says....and oh yeah….”Nevar” is “Raven” spelled backwards. Mind blown.

Here’s how simpleton-me read that upon release last year— “Hey, the Raven is an incredible touring ski. But some people don’t like reverse camber on firm/icy spring snow above exposure. What if we just added camber?” = a backwards Raven.
Hey— I’m not dissing— I’m still considering buying one. But ya gotta respect artists that can whip up a new design with minimal effort. That’s called being a skilled designer.
I like the shape. Don’t like the carbon stringers. I might be naive. Waiting for more feedback. Will probably order an AM100 instead. My touring requirements are short tours. Will see a CAST. If I was in ATK territory— Nevar makes a bunch of sense.

The nevar looks a lot like a 6mm wider WNDR Vital 98
I got a pr. of these in 184. They are pretty much like what others have said on this thread - a solid mid 100's touring ski. I'd call them the stiffer side of medium. They blow through difficult snow, hook up well on firm. I don't have a ton of time on reverse camber skis, but the Nevar being low camber with generous tip and tail rocker makes them feel pretty surfy in pow if you want them to be, or they can be skied more traditionally, driving the front of the boots. I like them, they ski well, but should have gotten the 177. So, I'm selling these with Haute Route 10+ and the Hoji Lock Free Pro skins. Hoji Lock is awesome. Retail on all that is $1598, asking $1000. Skied 12 days, bases are in great shape. Mounted on the line (835mm from tail) for a 317 BSL.
Anyone else? Comparisons to other skis? Biggest regret not getting on a pair this year.

I picked up a pair. I echo what others say, good, confidence inspiring skis in the firm that float surprisingly well. My biggest gripe is the weight. Mine in a 184 length are 1850 and 1910 grams. Definetly on the upper bound of acceptable weight for touring skis. I question if they are worth the weight premium over something in the ~1500 - 1600g range with a similar profile
Approx the same "real" weight as a Salomon Echo 106 181 (according to some guy on skimo.co 1870g/ski average) ...I'm tempted to get these (Nevar 184) mounted with an ATK RT11 EVO + Spacer, and a Wayback 179 with a Trofeo for bigger days.I mean the more skis the better, right ?

Absolutely love the tail skin attachment. The shop guys and I were talking about drilling a hole in the tail of our existing skis to mimic the system.

This reminds me of a Turbo with more rocker.
I really liked the Turbo. Not great anywhere, but not bad anywhere either. They were the ski to take when you didn't know what the conditions would be like.
The 190 would be really good with my Atomic Hawx 130’s. My heavyweight touring package is the Lhasa Pow 196 with Tectons. This would be probably a better ski/replacement.Quote:

Sorry if this is tangential, but anyone in the market for the Nevar also get on the Transalp 105 cti and have any thoughts? Kinda feeling like that’s the best fit for me of the Nevar, 0G 105, and Backland 107, mostly in regards to pow/soft snow and weight, while still having some edge hold and stability/performance. Thx!
I had the Backland 107s before the Nevar - pretty different ski. Backland feels lighter and a lot more carbony. They ski pow great and love to go fast with a forward stance. But I never found them confidence inspiring in hard / bad snow. The Nevar skis pow just as well, especially with the rockered tails vs. the relatively flat tail on the Backland and is awesome in icy steep stuff as well. The weight keeps them planted going through junk but you have to adjust your style to be a lot more centered than on the Backland which rewards charging. Obviously have to deal with them being 300g heavier. I took them to Chamonix and that was a amazing place for them given the lift access.
Never skied the ZG but I have heard it's better than the Backland in firm steep snow. Still fundamentally will feel closer to this ski with the carbon and weight than the Nevar. Hope this helps.
