My mom bought tickets to see him last summer and I joined her.
Always enjoyed his music. He put on a great show. Really cool old historic photos on the big screen, lots of stories told. The crowd was a little stuffy, but you can see it in their eyes, boomers checking off the last items on their bucket lists, lots of nostalgia. His story is pretty incredible, worth a read. He seems reasonably humble considering, and he’s smart enough to bring top notch hired guns on the road with him.
Was on a Grand Canyon 21 day private trip (92?). Nat Geo was filming a special on Martin Litton and his dories and history & JT was a passenger on their trip. At Redwall Cavern we were stopped to do the usual check it out thing and have lunch. The Nat Geo crew stopped to film him playing and singing and a buddies wife from our group asked him to sign her river axe. He obliged and seemed like a pretty low key & nice person.
I met him a few times in Telluride when I was (unsuccessfully) trying to bang his daughter. Nice guy, really tall. She was almost ten years younger than me, not a chance.
But it was fun hanging out a few times.
Crazy ass life for someone who, through his music, seems to be easy going and laid back (he's not - have seen him yelling at people on set during rehersals). His life was full of health issues, an abusive father, drugs (codeine and opium followed by a heroin and methadone addiction). Accidents. Amazing he's still alive and kicking.
LOL
Maybe we hoisted one - you’re making me miss the St. B. I think some of the instructors - the older ones - might still stash a pitcher at one of the trees. But I sort of lost track what with all the ‘upgrades’ over the last couple years.
He’ll, Taylor Swift was named after him, that’s some street cred right there.
