That isn't much oil for an old beater. My old Subaru leaks some oil where the shift rod exits that tranny and has been for years as do most all old Subarus with manuals. I check the oil all the time and I think I might have added oil once to it just to make myself feel better but not because it actually needed it.
Just think of it as a rust preventative.
I remember a removable access plate on the manual trans for 90's 350's.
The holes are cheaper means of access. It's an s10, they were supposed to be cheap.
Another potential source of undercarriage glop is leaky power steering components.
Taste it to determine the source. Engine oil has a more floral note and chocolatey finish than diff fluid, which tends to have more bitter notes.
I've never tried power steering fluid which in many cases is just ATF fluid.
The ATF fluid will Always Taste Fruity. :fmicon:
