Anybody on the ground have any info on potential resort opening thurs? (realize that may not be possible due to no power so no comms, but I heard cell phones are working). I'm flying to slc tonight planned on driving to Jackson and be on the hill tomorrow (also realize the drive is probably going to suck balls at this point).

But if they're not gonna open I might just stay in slc and ski Alta thurs. Any info is appreciated

As FYI I'm staying at snake river lodge and they just told me they're operating on genny and are still accepting guests.

Hwy 22 Teton Pass is still CLOSED. Anticipated opening after 4pm today.
US 191 Hoback - Bondurant is OPEN.
US 89/191/26 Moose to Moran is OPEN, but No unecessary travel is advised.
Gros Ventre Rd North of Kelly is still CLOSED
*NO evacuation orders have been issued for Teton Village or any other areas in Teton County. It has been strongly encouraged for people to leave areas impacted by power outages due to the limited services available in these areas.

Wednesday, February 8th. 10:40 AM UPDATE

Due to a massive wind storm last night, a significant number of power poles along Highway 390 were blown down, causing Teton Village to lose power. This power outage is being addressed by Lower Valley Energy, but the significance of this damage will be impacting Teton Village for up to seven days. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) will not be operating until further notice. All events scheduled for this week and weekend will be canceled, specifically Skijoring and Special Olympics.

Safety is the first concern for JHMR visitors and staff, and JHMR is asking for only specific operational staff come to Teton Village today and request that no unnecessary travel to Teton Village is in effect until further notice. With another weather system coming into the area tonight, there is a winter storm watch in effect for the higher elevations. Warming temperatures could result in possible flooding in the valley, making conditions challenging for many reasons. JHMR is seriously enforcing no uphill travel this week and asks everyone to stay off the mountain. JHMR will be issuing refunds for all visitors, but at this time, we do not have a location to process those refunds. Updates on operations and incident information will be updated as they come in on this page.

Teton Village Fire Department will be providing emergency services throughout this incident, and will be updating hotels and businesses as information comes in. The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Hole Central Reservation will be assisting with lodging and travel options for displaced guests.

Doesn't matter what winds were aloft the power poles were on the ground. If 90MPH did that, some heads need to roll at the power company.

Since the poles seemed to fail at the same point they need start looking a manufacturing issues.

So are there actually weather stations in the valley that recorded the winds accurately? Was it a downslope wind from a non prevailing rare direction, or convective microburst event? This doesn't make any sense to me.

Have to wonder how the storms heading there now will affect the 5-7 day schedule too.

Today there will be a relative lull as a flat ridge moves across the
area. However, the break will not last long as yet another Pacific
moves in from the west with another bout of precipitation. This
system will be warmer than the previous couple however.
Precipitation should start as snow but mix with and change over the
rain from south to north from late tonight into Thursday below
around 8000 feet. Most lower elevations may be mainly rain into
Thursday evening when there could be a change back to snow. This
could cause rapid melting of the snow. Meanwhile, heavy snow will
fall in the mountains through Friday with over a foot of new snow
likely for many area. This snow will be a heavy, wet snow that will
likely increase avalanche danger on Thursday and into Friday. Drier
and more settled weather should move in for the weekend.

That pic is unreal... The only time I have ever seen anything like that is when a tornado touched down briefly close to where I live and that is what it looked like... I would think with winds like that there would have been damage to other structures as well...

My guess is this is going to take some time to repair and get power back to affected areas... The area that was hit by the tornado took over a week to repair all of the damaged poles and that was without snow and winter weather...

Hard telling just by looking at the pics. In a strong wind event such as this one small failure can lead to a giant one. It will be interesting to hear of what they uncovered as the weak link that caused this failure, which I doubt will be made public. I showed the pic to some veteran construction guys at work and they all have never seen a steel failure such as this except for tornado strikes.

Winds last night felt a lot more coastal/hurricane style winds especially in the low lining part of the valley. The weathervane on my roof kept circling back and forth. We may have another blast of that wind again tonight?

These are getting posted up around the Village. Teton County Emergency Management just sent a notice that Teton Village is NOT under an "evacuation order", but all guests are being told to leave accommodations ASAP.

Seeing all the groomers out on the road was pretty wild.

I went outside from the Hostel X right when the power went out and it was like a scene from a movie.
