Might do 50% up front. This is darker than California-think that is like 70%-but close enough and then either 5% or 15% (whatever the next one up is) in the back. Good point on the ceramic for the front for keeping the heat out. When I go in I will check the products the tint man has.
Some general rules with window tinting - if you are at all concerned with cops pulling you over, ever, it's much, much better to at least, even if it's too dark to be legal, have contrast between the front and back, lighter in front obviously.
Sometimes it's vehicle specific. I went to the most reputable shop in my area and they said, is that Forester an SUV or a wagon? It's a sport wagon ('06), why? You can only have the rear be so dark in a wagon, but you can go as dark as you want in a truck or SUV - because that makes sense, right? I went back a month later and told them it was an SUV.
Buy good tint. Llumar, which I think changed its name to FormulaOne, which is what I went with is really nice. Expensive, but nice. By nice I mean it looks the best, deflects harmful rays the most, doesn't mess with your cell phone signal, and is the most insulative.
I know it's personal, but I really like having %15 in be back, %35 in the front. It doesn't make hardly any difference to me at night and makes a world of difference during the day. I'd guess in the summer that my car is easily 15 and maybe up to 35 degrees cooler. I certainly can understand going way dark if you're gonna be sleeping in it, though.
Like anything, a guy knowing what he's really doing makes a bunch of difference. Don't want no bubbles.
If you are talking stealth nose picking and public area wanking go with the limo tint.

Curious. Why do you tint and remove yourself farther away from the reality of what you are doing and make it harder to see pedestrians? I tinted a E150 side door window once for privacy when we camped.
