It's unbelievable to think that for all the open space out here, the situation has become so unsustainable that the FRD is getting ready to close the forest to dispersed shooting.
This reads like many letters to the editor from many places in the west as east coast and socal refugees move to "beautiful, scenic mountain towns" or "my dream retirement".
"I didn't move here to listen/see/smell <insert annoyance of choice that has been going on in that location for decades> !!!"
The flip side of this of course is the letter to the editor from the person who has lived in the same location for decades and writes about the socal/east coast refugees coming and <insert annoyance of choice>.
There certainly is some of that. It's one of the factors that makes enforcement so difficult. The spectrum of behavior is pretty broad. There's a lady who lives several miles from here that managed to draw the local SO out several times a week for shooting complaints until they realized she lives half a mile from a guy who repairs firearms for a living.Quote:

As an example of where I draw the line, there is a trailhead about a mile from here where USFS posts no OHV/Shooting signs. That sign will routinely get used as a shooting target. To me, that's just fucking obnoxious, and if I could make those people go away, I would. It's obnoxious in that it suggests that the forest is only there to host destructive shooting, because there's a real likelihood of shooting at people using the trail, and because it flies in the face of every basic principle of shooting safety known to man. I have no use or sympathy for people who want to behave that way.

A couple years ago a bunch of guys set up a shooting target just off a forrest rd. maybe 70 yards from Chikadee trailhead, (the most used TH in the valley), at Sun Mountain in Winthrop, WA, 20 feet from the Yellowjacket trail I was riding with my daughter. On a busy Sunday.
I frankly was scared to tell them to move their Lexus out of there.
I called Sun Mountain.
We had a couple of clowns turn up last year in a pair of audi SUVs with no less than $10k worth of hand guns who proceeded to start shooting at a 2' berm of dirt, back in the direction of the trail they'd just driven in on. Seems like the topic firearm safety takes the "99% of drivers think they are above average" concept to another level. No one seems inclined to admit they don't know what they're doing - as though they were the next american sniper when they evacuated the womb.Quote:

Here's a donation left this holiday weekend by one of Colorado's fine outdoor enthusiasts... somewhat nicer than the unbagged pile of garbage left a half mile further down the trail which, in case anyone were inclined to think that only poor rednecks engage in this sort of bullshit, was entirely comprised of organic yogurt containers and prepared fruit trays from whole foods.
This sort of thing should be punishable by on the spot execution. The world doesn't need any more people who behave this way.
