Step up and try the fingers (snowbasin TR)

Holy crap. What a shitstorm.

pointedem, you don't have a freaking clue. I believe the cornice slide to traverse/bowl closure you're talking about happened on chute #4 on Saturday and it did appear to be skier triggered. Not chute #2 on Sunday (which is what this TR is about). Another cornice came down later, but it was north of the fingers, not even in one of the chutes. And it wasn't skier triggered. And what is intense from one person to another is completely subjective. Maybe you're radder than all of us could ever be, but why be a dick when somebody else has a break through day?

hunter, nice to meet you as well. Those were some fun lines in doppylmayer/east demoisy.

hey pointedem, I don't care what you think of my line and whether it was worthy of your approval, i wasn't trying to impress you. I don't ski to try and impress anybody. I am out for the fun and the rush and thought i would share some of my stoke.

I think the closing of Ogden due to the skier/cornice was Saturday, we were up there on sunday.

Oh, and thanks to flyk for calling some great lines for us. Porky bowl rocked.

Thanks to BP for all the pics. After he took that pic of crinkle and meats hiking around the back I saw him launch a pretty nice cornice when he thought no one was looking. It was solid. :fm:

Way to go Crinkle. The line looked plenty rad to me and I love these kind of TRs. Not cause of the dick waving (which here was kept to a minimum), but b/c of the sense that someone is stepping up to a new challenge and meeting it. Just skiing with the Drugged Monkey is probably a good way to accomplish those goals and the best part is how you immediately gain confidence on similar terrain (later that day!). I'm sure you'll kill it in AK!

Last I checked, that is normal BC procedure. I'm guessing they weren't amatuers if they broke the cornice off to check snow stability...and especially since they didn't take a ride with the cornice.

And you never know, that 'moron' might have done everyone a favor and kept someone from dying in a slide or taking a tumble over some rocks. Imagine if they closed the area to any of the following: a slide with a burial, someone getting injured, or, someone breaking one off and taking out numerous people below watching?

I was going to say the same thing. Nice pics. Hard to believe those lines are so filled in. They don't look nearly as intimidating as when I skied them acouple years back. The Sliver, well, it isn't even a sliver anymore.

I'm sure that straight run will get hit up this year. Some people have been putting in some sick lines this year.

what kind of camera were you using to take a shot like this? My Sony blows and will only do things like this in very low quality. Did you have to stitch them together?

Looks like Taylors to me. I'm stil confused as to which is banana. I've heard two different ones called Banana, right next to each other but both ending up in the same spot.

Great read, Crinkle. Stoy took me and a couple other tahoe and alta mags up to the fingers 3 years ago I think. Myself, phUnk and DTM skied #3 and Shoelaces #2, Funken #4. Damn those chutes are really steep. phUnk and DTM made quick work of their lines. Funken threw a shoe in the chute and it was so steep he couldn't get back up the 20 feet to retrieve it. Stoy in true local hero fashion, skied in from above picked it up and handed it to him. I rag dolled out of the bottom of #3 after pointing it through a little narrow choke into the fastet run out this gaper has ever encountered. I must have tomahawked 3-4 times and it took me a good 20 minutes to get back up the pow to get my ski. A maggot, whom shall remain nameless, but who rips with the best of them, walked away, it is sketchy standing up there. (At least for some of us.)

The fingers are cool and i would love to give them another shot.
