I honestly don't care if McClellan was fired. replacing a press sec. isn't hard. Though I do miss how much Ari pissed of Helen Thomas.

regarding Eason Jordan. Mr. Access is more important than reporting facts. we won't know what he really said until the Davos people release the tapes. but Barney Frank's, a noted Bush supporter, account makes it sound like Jordan made an accusation not posed a question.

Valerie Plame? where the hell did that come up? I thought Judith miller was heading to the cross bar hotel for that one. huh.

this has all been corroborated by others at the Davos forum (which refuses to release the tapes or transcripts in a lame attempt to protect its own) including gay liberal Dem. Barney Frank (!) who challenged Eason's statement at the forum, and Dem. Sen. Christopher Dodd.

yes, he "corrected" his remarks, in other words, he backtracked from the lie (or unsubstantiated rumor if you prefer) that he initially stated. so it's ok to not only lie and then apologize within (nearly) the same breath? and from the head of a worldwide news service? recall this was the man who admitted covering up Saddam's atrocities in order to keep CNN on air in Baghdad before the war. a man of integrity, no?

ahh, but this story could not possibly have any teeth since Eason Jordan has resigned. apparently, the actual transcripts would have been more damaging than the reports from folks at the forum. funny how none of this was ever mentioned by the mainstream media. CNN did a great job of suppressing dissent!

I am a Hard-pass carrying member of the WH press Corps.

1. The White House Press Office (202) 456-2580 has (at least for the last 15 years - my tenure) been the entity disbursing WH Press Credentials pending Secret Service clearance, not some nebulous Media Conglomerate.

2. The FBI doesn't do the background check - the Secret Service does, and it takes 4-6 months. You'd be surprised (or not) at the thoroughness of that check. I had people calling me i hadn't seen in 15 years asking WTF?

3. The Secret Service must have been under orders to allow a credential with a fake name.

4. Whether or not Scott MacClellan was duped is moot. The Press Secretary doesn't decide who gets in or out, just who gets called on and what topics get discussed. He called on a NOBODY, so he was in on it.

This isn't "news," unfortunately. The WHPress Corps has known about this guy for a while, but has lost its collective spine over the last 4 years. No one wants to happen to them what Ari Fleischer did to Helen Thomas - not call on them. All these whores want one thing: To. Get. On. TV. Helen didn't care, and kept asking sensitive/embarrassing questions and was castigated for it. there was serious talk at one point about the WH doing their own VNR's (Video News Releases) and thus not having to answer any questions on the record.

And Ripzalot: Limbaugh and Hannity do it every day. Also, my company (Reuters) lost almost as many journalists in the last 3 years than in the rest of its 150 year history. We lost more cameramen (what I do) than anyone else in Afghanistan and Iraq - TO US FIRE, not the "enemy's." Our CEO had meetings with the Pentagon's top brass a year ago about this very issue - the fact that non-embedded news Organizations SEEMED TO BE targets.

did their deaths fall under Reuter's oh so ironic "Oddly Enough" by lines? I mean it is ironic that these reporters died while reporting in a war zone. Especially when the press was specifically told the rules of the game beforehand.

It's kind of like heading into the back country when avy danger is at it's highest.

to my knowledge not too many people around here receive a lot of sympathy for taking such risks.

but this is different, because of the Iraq war's illegitimacy. :rolleyes:
