The powmag board started in September of 2000 if I remember correctly. I joined that first month. Work was slow. The season was fast approaching and people were talking about hills that I frequented so I decided to chime in. I remember summitconuskulr, punani, lemon boy, orphic seth, frozen were all around then. I think the majority of people there at that point were K2 chatter refugees.
Ice, you sure about Sept. '01 powmag start? Seems you'd know, I remember you when i first posted, but like many others above, I was pretty sure it was 2000 when powmag started. Who cares who's right, just interested.
So I first came on in 2000 or 2001 as Alpenflow. You monkeys are 1/2 the reason I've never lost the dream to live the dream. finally makin' the jump. thanks.

I started on powmag in january 2001....I regitstered here in 2002...but now I mostly lurk unless I see a thread I can add to....like the sox threads that have been going around....GO SOX!
October or November of 01, I think. I found the powder board when I was trying to help Mr.AG sell a pair of Stormriders pre/early season. And then I never left.
I found the Powmag site in April of 02. The first time I met anyone from the board was when I drove up to Brigham City to pile into a motor home with 5 people I didn't know.
What a wild fun ride it's been...
A lot of people seem to leave the board for a bit and then return. The only one I haven't seen back that I can think of is NanoG. Unless she changed her name I haven't seen Shredder in a while either. For about a year after the exodus I wondered where Clack had gone off to, then when some guy named Monsterdump posted a picture of his Landcruiser it finally sank in. Cracker, KQ, Pinner and Wizard seem to pop in occasionally.

Became a telemark chatterererer (an extra 'er' for good measure) around 1998. Lurked at K2 about a year later or whenever they put that thing together, though I never posted. I guess I didn't spend enough time there to understand that Punani, OrphicSeth, SummitCountyNuSklr and the Lemony Boy were joking about being despicable individuals.
Gradually slid over to the Powder magazine site in the fall of 2000. Retired at 4000 posts, got a sequined muscle shirt and the rest is well, pretty much mystery.
I miss Mr.PoundKey.

I joined the Powder board in March or April of 2002 (it says December though because of the first great fuck up). I can't remember if I came across the board directly or was pointed there from another site. Skied with the Kirkweed crew that November. The rest is history.
The one person I miss the most is the Superstar. Who is this simple Punani fellow? ;)

Reg'd on powMag in 02/08/01. I had 500 or so post before the first meltdown, now i show 1138 over there and over a 1000 here.
Thanks to the man, much of that time was paid. With my new jobbie job, i won't really have much access to the 'puter, so my posts will dwindle soon.......as the world turns.
I remember back in '98 or '99 when powdermag.com was some funny slow-motion snowflaky thing without a forum. Then it was redesigned and I joined under a different name some time in 2000. I 'relaunched' as Schmear in (I think) 2002. The PR agency Willis, Matthewson, & Pratt was responsible for my lush makeover.

I think I got a new join date after Daniel battled the lions in the Coliseum of Death. Dudele stumbled in first....what a hoot.

The AGS page was the first forum I found (Alpental Geek Squad at the now defunct skigeeks.com). I remember guys like Pookie, Gadzooks, Skidawg and Kaitai. My handle was a combination of my real name, and a certain mohawked persona
Dunno what happened to the rest, but me Skidawg and Kaitai migrated over to the newly inaugurated K2 SkiChatter board along with guys like Lemon Boy, Pinner, Reno Ripper, Racer-X and LB's online girlfriend Trace ;). It was the Wild West and the gunslingers were all formidable. There was no registration, no moderation and flame wars were the order of the day. My handle at the time was based on a cartoon character whose fondness for women, chicks and babes paralleled my own, Johnny Bravo.
Somewhere along the melee K2 decided to put in a moderator, Two Buddha, who made internet history as the person you'd least want to piss off. "Superstar Punani" emerged as an alias to keep the JONGs in check. Mr Pound Key came around at approximately the same time. The dreaded orange background and the guy with the facepaint filled your screens. Idiots constantly asked if they "Should buy 1080s or Enemies". Some kid posted asking "How do I get spancered?". TomK was (and still is) the most mellow and helpful guy on the board. BumpskierX's mouth wrote checks his body can't cash and was ran out of the board.
If you could stand the chaos, friendships were eventually made. Skidawg and Kaitai regularly came out here from Illinois (Wilmot represent) and we hit up Gapenly and Kirkweed. The precursor to the official Summit took place in winter of 1999 at Tahoe. "Reno Ripper", lostinthetrees, Em-melissa (where is she?) and I hit up Alpine. I also briefly met Natty Dread and saw Iggies for the first time.
In Summer 2000 rumors of Powdermag.com emerged, along with a new forum. on September 5 2000 the K2 SkiChatter crew infiltrated Powdermag. The first Kirkwood ski session was in winter 2000/01 with the likes of some new kid from PA, "Snake Bite", "Bay Area Gaper" and myself. Within the first couple runs the new kid from PA dropped early season KW rockbands and ended up on the backboard and hauled down by KW patrol. We thought we broke Tyrone Shoelaces.
It was cool to meet a bunch of like minded skiers from all over the place. The Kirkweed crew constantly snowballed, and I'll never forget a certain powder day. I was wondering who these two guys were following me to a stash out the Palisades repeatedly. On the shuttle, this dude looks at me and yells "PUUUNNNNAAAANNIIIII!!!". I had met Splat and Cracker.
Over the next few years we learnt of Gaffney's small weewee, the first Utah Summit in March '02 went OFF, an Austrian bodybuilder/moofie star checked in until he became to busy with politics, then it all ended one day when some cocksucker named "Daniel" deleted a bunch of shit not once but twice, The exodus took place and here we are now.
I started at Epic in March of 2000. I'm not sure when I migrated over to Pmag because my browser keeps locking up when I try to access it tonight. I'll edit in the morning after I reboot the CPU. Then migrated here during the Dan rampage. Epic was actually somewhat ok when I first joined there. I actually discoverd PMag when people at PMag were trolling Epic and I found it hilarious when others at Epic did not. I'm glad I found the P-Mag boards because I would have probably quit skiing after reading all of that PSIA crap that talk about over there at Epic. I wasn't sure when I had joined over and couldn't remember my handle for the life of me so I went back through my really old e-mails and found one from when I had apparently forgot my info one other time. :D
edit: I apparently joined Pmag on December 19, 2002. I can't believe it took me that long to migrate from Epic.

After bumming around the old ReMarq and usenet ski message forums in the late 90's, I found Powdermag.com and registered (I just looked up the original date over there: Ooootahhh [Originally registered Feb 13th, 2001] )
I used to like the site--we had the best dang ski forum on the web until we got screwed over.
I had been posting over here for a few years when the big migration happened. This was obviously a nice fit for everybody, that's why we're all still here.
I still miss those rough and rowdy days of Ye Auld P-mag. The forum as we knew it may be gone but the name lives on ;): Powdermaggots.com
it was my second year in college...fall of 2000. . .i remember sitting at that corner desk i had in my moldy half underground apartment where looking out the window from my desk chair while sitting at my computer meant looking up to the grass.
i registered as plain ol "Re". I don't know exact dates but it was probly somewhere around the launch of the site. I remember all these "people" mentioning how they had all migrated from the K2 Chatter board. the thought of a ski related message board had never even crossed my mind until i found the powder forum. somewhere down the road i decided even though Re is technically a nickname, it's still the name i go by in real life and i should probably switch it over to an alias. that is when "Lynx" was born on the p-mag forum. and after whats-his-face screwed up the boards and we lost our logins i was reincarnated as "Lynx 2.0" losing any elderly status i had in the eyes of the jongs.
and i miss Mr Pound Key :(
EDIT: and without the maggot forum, i may never have interned with powder. . . or gone to south america with some crazy writer named splat whom i had never met before meeting up during our layovers in texas on the way down, or had couches to crash on in St Louis or SLC or New Mexico or had friends in UT as soon as i set foot in the state or worked and lived at mt hood for the summer with another maggot i didn't meet until we were roomies or even gotten my current job.

I barely remember ReMarq, I think it was the first place I found when I got a computer sometime in 1999. Hung out at RSA for some time, "met" endless there. As RSA became unbearable I started looking around again. Found Epic, Blarp then Powder in fall 2001. Mr Pound Key was the first person to respond to a post of mine. He was unmerciful but I gave it back to him, couldn't scare me off HA. In May 2002 found TGR but didn't post much. I pretty much abandoned Epic as soon as I found the beloved the old Pmag board, it was much more fun. I still check out those other boards and some others but this is home :D
