The touring alone in Searchmont is crazy. Many many freshies to be had for free. It is surronded by state forest? Maybe have a dual Summit with the majority at Searchmont and then a carpool trip to spilt gas and driving time between mags?

i sand-skied the saugatuck dunes this summer (http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...highlight=dune) and wouldnt mind goofing around over there w/ some snow on top-- not really sure how that would work though.

I'm not a real big fan of going to canada..........but some friends and I have been kicking around the idea of going to searchmont this year. The mini might be the right kind of motivation I/WE need to get there.
Otherwise: If anyone is interested, we could take a private jet from Detroit to Houghton (30 mins from bohemia). 8 people= $250 per person. Yes I actually have investigated this. Yes I know how far fetched/ridiculous this sounds, but Bohemia is FACKING FAR.

Touring is quite good.................no question that it is really the only place in the midwest to do it. Most of the land is split between privately owned (although nobody cares if you ski on their land.....although some people like you to ask) power company owned (which pretty much equals public land) and Queen's Land, which is similar in regards to management to BLM land. Also, if we don't want to hike all the time for turns, I do know people with sleds.....Canadians are friendly and generous. As far as inbounds is concerned, there is stuff that rivals Bohemia.........and there are also nice long groomers of varying pitch. It's actually very family friendly....if you have non-skiing or new to skiing family, Searchmont has an excellent, and inexpensive, ski school (it must be awesome, I teach there). The grooming and snowmaking has improved a lot in the last two years, as well as the park (there are actually two parks now, one with big hits and rails and one with smaller hits and a pipe). Lodging on property is available, and there are multi-family accomodations available. There are also nearby (within 5 minutes) condo/cabin rentals. There is a bar at Searchmont, which is cool, and they had pretty good restaurant setup last year (not sure if they're doing that again this year....you can buy groceries in the soo if you need to). Soo Canada is a city of about 80,000 that has lots of bars and a couple strip joints for those who may be interested. It's about half an hour away from Searchmont. Soo Michigan is the same distance, but there is the border crossing........95% of the time the border is a non-issue. Takes about 5 minutes to get across usually. If you really want to make this summit on the cheap, my house is available.....it's a college student home so don't expect a mint on your pillow. But it'll be free......we can also car pool up to Searchmont from my house. Liek I said before we do it 3-4 times a week. Oh, and if you're under 21, you can still drink at the bars, as long as your 19, but often you can get away with it if you're younger too.Quote:
