I have a Morso stove - it heats the upper 1800 sq ft of my house like a champ. We burn about 7 cords per season (maybe 8-9 this year - it's been around 0* for the last 3 weeks) and it does a fantastic job...

I was looking at another thread yesterday, and noticed something in this pic that triggered a memory from long ago.

Those rectangular vents above and below on either side of the fireplace are part of what's called a Heatilator. I've only seen one before, in a small country cabin that was built in the early 60's. Basically one room downstairs, with a loft. I recall the fireplace/heatilator setup keeping everything pretty toasty.

(not sure if this is fireplace or wood stove thread but looks we are talking wood stoves now)

Also have a morso - squirrel. Tiniest best stove I could find for my tiny cabin.

I hope to build a bigger place someday and I want a blaze king so bad. Set it and forget it. All fire lodgepole pine for me.

My house was built in 1947 and has the same setup. I'll get a pic in the daylight tomorrow.

And here I thought it was the mantel inscription that triggered you.

My house was built in 1978 and it has vents there.

Walling over a fireplace is grounds for expulsion.
