I was thinking it would come in handy for any hawgs Phish and I pulled from the Sandy Nightclub.

Dirty Coal-Fired Power Plants and Air Pollution
Power plants are a major source of air pollution, with coal-fired power plants spewing 59% of total U.S. sulfur dioxide pollution and 18% of total nitrogen oxides every year. Coal-fired power plants are also the largest polluter of toxic mercury pollution, largest contributor of hazardous air toxics and release about 50% of particle pollution.Additionally, power plants release over 40% of total U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, a prime contributor to global warming.
The sad fact is you are not going to make much of a difference with your personal vehicle, driving a hybrid is barely a drop in the bucket
The problem is way bigger than people as individuals-therefore I BRAAAP
Reducing our dependence on oil is going to require alternative energy, alternative means of (mass) transportation, increased MPG standards AND a change in the way we build and design our cities.
You simply cannot live in a major metro area and get around in a reasonable amount of time. (NYC and some other cities are exceptions to this.) You can't walk to the grocery store in most cities. Trying to get around in Seattle on the bus was a joke when I lived there. It was possible, but it took forever. Anyone ever try to get from the airport to north of downtown on a bus in Seattle? :nonono2:
It is even worse outside the core of the city. Suburbs are just mindboggling in their design. NO access to any sort of services without a car.
There are exceptions and ways to get around having a car and many people do it successfully. Bikes, living in the core of cities, carpooling, etc. But for the majority of people you simply cannot get anything done without a car.
And if we magically jacked the price of gas to $6.50/gallon? Well, it might be a good way to get rid of all the politicians in office right now.
I've said this before: After the Fall of Society, when the pipeline dries up, horses are going to be worth more than gold.
If I had the car pictured in that link (the new ZR-1, I would happily put $5.00 a gallon gas in it all day long because if I can afford the car) I can afford the gas.
The change to use less energy will be born by the poor and the middle class. The rich folk will always be able to do whatever they want. $5.00 a gallon gas doesn't change the rich $500k a year guy's commute, but it does the poor chump in South Jordan with 5 kids and a honda accord.
That being said, fast sportscars are badass and should always be around. Hummers on the otherhand....
I think our dependence on oil/middle east is a big problem, not to mention petroleum is a finite resource. Those are the problems.
NOT global warming!!! due to anthropogenic CO2 emissions which has an effect that is minimal at best and has been blown WAY WAY out of proportion by using religious scare tactics in order to make a few people some $$$$.
In that case you must be a HUDGE fan of ethanol. Fuck CO2 emissions.
More corn!
I'm nowhere near your nuanced view of Global Warming, but I will be building my next project car to run on E85, and I'm going to put some greenie BS sticker on it too so no one gives me shit for my toy.
You guys should be watching future cars on discovery channel right now. Car with lithium ion battery, 8 wheel drive.
I am...some are beautiful, and some...wtf?
Like I said in a thread yesterday, I take the train everyday, and it royally pisses me off that I can't go out drinking past 11:30 if I have to rely on public trans, so I'm all for making driving more expensive. However, I've always had a little motorhead in me, and my absolute favorite car of all time is the BMW M5 E39 (although I'd give my left nut to drive the E60). I've wanted to own one since the 9th grade when I stumbled upon my gf at the time's uncle's while taking care of the cats. All I want is to drive the shit out of one or both of them for a day each as I cannot morally buy a car like that anymore...(I'm waiting on the Jetta Diesel wagon)
alcohol burning funneh cars
alright, my apologies then.
/every man needs a gas guzzler
//not every man needs to drive it to work everyday, or let it idle while they pick up their cheesy poofs.
I pay over 8 dollars a gallon, and live in a region of Norway with a very shitty public transport system. I´m a student with no real income other than my student loan, which puts me below the limit of poverty in my country. I suggest you stop the fucking whining.
Regulate? Nonsense.
I bought the new Tundra, because I needed the additional horsepower and torque. I am constantly towing, while the truck is loaded with tools. I am either towing heavy steel for work, or a few snowmobiles for fun. Either way, I am climbing hills with those loads. My older V6 Tundra had a tough time. And, the new V8 gets better mileage than the older V6.
You would be amazed at how many of the people you see in large v8 trucks are contractors. Most of us don't have signs on our trucks, so you would never know.
