One legal route in that area that looks great is the North Face of N.Arapahoe peak, definitely a hike but it's supposed to be very nice. I'd love to try that sometime in the next 10 years.

I think you can see the N. face of N. Arapahoe from the top of Apache...looked sweet. Either way, count me in for May 2011!!

I swore I saw a fence up there, maybe it was related to the weather station thing on Niwot ridge. Sheeet, maybe I's trippin'.

I've never seen the face in person, but I've seen a picture of it in that Indian Peaks Descents book. But I can't seem to find that book. I had it in my car earlier this year, then I think I brought it inside my house. I thought I left it on top of my washing machine, but it's not there because I just looked there this morning.

Boulder's ownership of the glacier pre-dated the creation of the USFS. It never has been in the USFS. It's that town's water supply; many fcommunities fence off their reservoirs. This is no different.

I dunno...It's owned by City of Boulder, perhaps it's an island of land within the Nat. Forest. While backpacking in the Catskills several years ago we came across a fence surrounding a lake and signs reading "City of New York Water Supply", so it's not just here.

we have waterskiers on our reservoirs. Fish poop in em' as well. Damn deer don't treat them quite right either.

---though this whole fenced water supply does make the premise behind Jackie Chans movie "the tuxedo" a little more clear. I mean come on, water skeeters so that the reservoir surface isn't broken sounding the alarm...jeesh.

You can't swim or boat in Hetch Hetchy, San Francisco's water supply and that is part of a National Park. Water Sheds in Marin and Palo Alto are off limits too.
