Guy I do work for just sold his Chevy 1500 for this Rivian(I know, not a truck). I didn't get a chance to check it out much but looked way better then I expected. A MT contractor pulling a work trailer with a Rivian has gotta be an interesting use case. He does still have an old Ford pickup for towing/lumber hauling. As far as charging in small town Montana, he built a new house a year or two ago and planned on eventually having electric. Well my Duramax and I found some black ice last weekend, and an immovable rock. At about 25 mph, bounced off the rock, slid down the road an over the bank into a rockpile. Airbags, front bumper, grill, fender, both doors, step tubes, bottom of the cab, bed, front suspension, frame, engine tub, corner of the bed near the cab.
Looks like it may be DRT. Insurance company says 75% of value to total it. As of yesterday they were around $28k and pulling parts to check the frame/suspension to see the extent of the damage.
Found one with 33k miles like it. It is/was the Carhart Z71 Edition. Waiting to see what the damage is.

Had an interesting experience Monday.
My F250 has been giving me intermittent error messages about traction control, side impact, etc. Never actually effects the truck but annoying none the less. It would happen every few days and go away in a minute or two. But it's a bummer as I've never had a single issue with a Ford Super Duty outside of wear and tear. I googled it and found horror stories starting in about 2017 about an unsolvable problem leading to lemon qualifications because it was impossible to figure out what the actual culprit was in a network with over 120 sensors. Stoke was not high.
I take it to the dealer in Boise where I bought it from, hop in the Maverick loaner truck and head off to Trader Joe's with a list from the wife. An hour later the dealer calls. "Your truck's done. And we performed an oil change because you're about due and we appreciate you driving all the way from Hailey for a warranty issue."
I get back and he shows me how they located a glitch in the power steering module. Basically their system runs a diagnostic on all codes that are being thrown in conjunction with symptoms (in this case there were three codes), timing, interior and exterior temps, etc (all logged by the truck), cross referenced with all prior cases in their database, and then uses AI to locate the actual issue and most likely solution. In this case, reprogramming a steering component. Sure as shit, no more errors.
I've been wondering when AI would be leveraged to diagnose things like this and it sounds like it's happening. While I lament that our "tough trucks" are now a series of networks, this was a positive experience.

Nissan put a million miles timing chain into a case with plastic guides that wore out in less trouble than a traditional timing belt. That rubbed some folks, myself included, the wrong way
Toyota and the venerated 22R had the same defect. My ‘85 went through a set of guides, took out the aluminum timing chain cover. Used a engine from a parts 86 to rebuilt the head. Swapped the plastic guides to metal.Quote:
