Anyone skiing tomorrow? Thinking about first chair somewhere
closing day? is this mic on?
I'm going up tomorrow afternoon. I'm a maybe on Sunday. 30% chance. Might also be able to come up right at the end like at 2pm.
In for the Tailgate closederfuck aka “closing Real” aka “Real closing.” Looks like sunny with a small possibility of overnight snowfall.

Wish I could make it but I have to go to something like 6 little league games and 37 dinner parties this weekend.
Yes on Sunday close fest

Even if every vol voted against the union it still would pass by a large majority.
I’ll Be in Vegas for the Sphere. Was there for fake closing. Good times. Party on!
They're setting up for a pond skim at the base next to Alpenglow.
I also found another shack, today. I'd show you a picture but this website won't let me upload from my phone, today.
few laps in with mags and non mags, pond skim is back and good show. Good closer in the sun, could not have requested better weather
Didn't ski with any of the clusterfuck until closing day, which is kinda funny.
Thanks for the brats!
Good soft turns all over the mountain. Gully Glades were fun.

I have a nickel to contribute. Eldora has changed so much over these last 30 years. I hope whoever buys it continues the uphill access program and maybe takes better care of the cross-country trails.
Eek! Just please not Vail. I think I speak for most everyone
Hmmmmm whose name is in the hat for this?
Group buy? I'm in for $37.
Ditto.
Curious to see how this plays out for sure.
How much do they want? Might use my lottery winnings.
If they could add night skiing and summer mountain biking, I’d think they’d kill it.
On the mountain biking front, they would absolutely crush it if they built a bike park (assuming they didn't fuck it up, which is a big assumption, because Eldora). The things that holds them back as a ski mountain -- terrain and weather and vertical -- would not be problem for a bike park. I have been told that the reason they don't is because much of the base area is leased and the property owners don't want it?
As for lighting, I think they should light a few kilometers of the nordic center. There are so many hardcore athletes in Boulder that might pay for a season pass if they could get their skate/kick-and-glide on after work. But I'm not sure lighting the alpine trails would do much for them. Are there really people who don't have a season pass now that would buy one if they had Alpenglow running and some cruisers lit? I doubt it. And as someone who has stood out there watching my daughter train on Chute under the lights until 630pm, I cannot imaging how fucking cold it would be to ride Alpenglow even later than that.
I could be wrong, but always thought the hold up with mt biking was the USFS lease and Boulder county lease specified winter use only. And changing that is a lengthy and expensive process. If even possible with those two bureaucratic and red tape loving entities. Who knows…
That area is definitely a mess of agency owned, private land, and mining claims etc.
Is Corona open yet?
Very true. Plus Ned has a say in things, and it’s not a ski town (basically a boulder commuter town) so they seem to just vote for minimizing traffic
Netherland is a ski and mountain bike town. It’s just that the forest service has it shut down for elk breeding season in the summer and we don’t have any say in it. Personally, I wish they would just open up Moffett tunnel and make getting to Winter Park easier.
Figured it was due to the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse
^^^ meant not a ski town like cb, sb, wp, breck etc where ski and tourism is primary economy. But yeah tunnel would be amazing
Each year we ride to Winter Park for lunch and back. The preferred route is the pipeline from the top of Eldora. Typically we do a lil Jenny Creek end-around to bypass the lower part of Eldora JIC.
One year we're riding up the shelf road and LOTS of cars are passing us. Get up to the parking lot and people are getting ready for an XTERRA triathlon, so we center-punch it up the cattrack. Almost at the top we get passed by an Eldora pick-up who just nods and waves - assuming we're part of the race? Surprised they didn't stop us.
There's no point to this story, just wanted my voice heard on the internet.
^^ heard
The whole Jenny Creek fiasco is a sore point for me. The old Management tried their best to shut off access to the national forest year round via the trailhead at the gate of Eldora. Now you can park at the Nordic center for access but now they make you get a pass to access the trail. It worked the first time I used it, but then I had to bypass the gate each time there after, I guess they make you get one every day to make it valid. Fuck that noise last time I was there I just sidestepped the gate and kept on trucking.
