Back in the Midwest the Turn is typically heralded by several days of rain in late August. Hemingway wrote a story called "Three Day Rain" in which a young man living on Walloon Lake in the upper LP of Michigan breaks up with his girlfriend during such a rain. I read the story during a 3 day rain at Walloon Lake, where I was teaching sailing for the summer and where I had just broken up with my girlfriend. (Walloon Lake is where Hemingway's family had a cottage; it is located near Lake Charlevoix at the 5th metacarpal head.)
