It's plastic/composite of some kind; new grill style compared to the metal ones they used previously.

Slightly different hood shape and new LED headlights, but otherwise the same chassis/body as my Thomas diesels

Musta been some older buses or real real cold? The newer diesels do a phenomenal job with cold starts. I've started a Thomas (cummins B6.7) in -10 to -20F; it's not happy but they crank. Now the older buses with 7.3's... no bueno.

My neighbor just got one. I saw it last night when I walked the dog past her driveway. I didn't get a chance to look at it very closely -- just enough to see the "Lucid" badging.

Saw 2 Rivians on the road this past weekend. They look awesome.

There are several polestar 2s around the Seattle area, I can't decide what I think of the appearance in person but I think I like it.

England passed a law requiring all new homes to have electric car chargers. That'd be an update to NEC I'd support.

Despite this, I assume Tesla sales will be poor, since that's a dentist car and England clearly doesn't have dentists.

I did an electrical design for a gas station near Nelson a few years ago. During design i asked them repeatedly if they wanted provision for car charging but nope they said they were a fuel station. I ended up calculating a 400A 120/208 3 ph service for them. I heard recently they asked an electrical engineer what it would take to add car charging. Morons coulda done it for about 25% of what it'll cost now.

Just drove my Bolt EUV from Boise to SLC and back. First takeaway is that 50kw fast charging is not fast enough. Second takeaway is that fast charge stations should really have some amenities to hang out at. I’d pay money to have something to do, other than sit in my car next to a corn field outside Burley, ID.

I guess it also depends on just WHEN cars get a 500+ mile charge, and whether the better range, or possibly faster charging times, make the stops somewhat obsolete.

I honestly don't know just when that will happen. At this point it makes good sense to have shopping and quick food available. In the future that might not be the case so much.

The casino thing is interesting.

On the way to Mammoth I always used to stop at Fort Independence. It is in the second of the four towns (Lone Pine, Independence, Big Pine and Bishop) that you hit during the last stretch of the drive to Mammoth. I don't hit that spot anymore, as it does not have a charger, but I would imagine getting people into the casino for 20-40 minutes of slots might make sense. You are not going to get people for hours and hours, but you might make an extra 20-100 bucks off people who stop to charge.

That casino always looked horrible to me. I could smell the cigarette smoke whenever I would go into the convenience store to use the restroom or buy something to drink. Now that I almost never smell cigarette smoke I really can't stand it.

There is a dispensary right there. If they had a few Tesla chargers I would definitely check it out. You could grab something at the convenience store and maybe some edibles as well. There are chargers about 20 minutes south, in Lone Pine, and about about 40 minutes north, in Bishop. I've never had issues getting a charger at either of those places, so Independence might not be all that necessary as far as alleviating an overused set of chargers. It would probably make more sense to put one in Coso Junction or somewhere like that, right between the ones in Mojave and the Lone Pine chargers.

There is a cafe at Fort Independence, but I've never tried it. If they had decent bagels it would actually be a good spot to stop and grab one while charging. I usually hit the Independence area around 8 or 830 am, so it would be an ideal place to grab something and charge.

I think this is it. Improvements in design and tech are coming fast and furious, (like the new cooling design for the charging cord).
I’d like the 500+ mile range, (in any weather), batteries to be here now, but it won’t be long.
