Yeah, Boreal WROD is usually the last weekend in October.
The bike or the WROD. Bummer h-atlas. Hope it gets found.
Taken from front of my house - side street off lower Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, NV.
our good friends over at Snow Pals (http://www.snowpals.org/2012/lake-ta...opening-dates/) compiled this handy list (though one wonders why they consider China Peak, Bear Valley and Dodge Ridge to be part of the "Tahoe Ski Resorts" area as they don't even show up on their included Tahoe Region map!). Also, they neglected the all-important caveat of "Opening Dates Subject To Change Based Upon Conditions"). For the sake of clarity, I re-arranged the list so that they are in descending order of projected opening dates since I am pretty sure that there are a few of you who will make the effort to hit every opening day for bragging rights of that nature.):
Boreal have set a tentative opening date for Wednesday October 31, 2012.
Mammoth opens November 8
Heavenly opens on November 16
Northstar at Tahoe opens on Nov 16
Squaw Valley USA opens on Nov 21
Kirkwood opens Nov 21
Sugar Bowl projected to open Nov 22 Thanksgiving
Sierra at Tahoe projected to open Nov 22 Thanksgiving
China Peak will open around Thanksgiving
Tahoe Donner will open around Thanksgiving
Homewood will open around Thanksgiving
Donner Ski Ranch will open around Thanskgiving
Dodge Ridge will open around Thanksgiving
Soda Springs will open around Thanksgiving
Alpine Meadows opens Dec 7
Diamond Peak projected to open early Dec
Mt. Rose projected to open early Dec
Bear Valley projected to open early Dec
Yosemite’s Badger Pass® Ski Area will open in early Dec
Mt. Shasta Ski Resort will open early December
Granlibakken Resort will open early December
Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort will open early Dec
Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski Area will open early December
Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area will open early Dec
If Granlibakken opens before Alpine, I'm gonna be pissed.
On the other hand, if it dumps before Thanksgiving you could just hike or skin at Alpine and have the place to yourself along with a few others. That's my plan, anyway.
On the other hand, is KSL even going to allow that? The deal wasn't final last year until after opening.
White stuff fell from the sky in San Jose, CA this afternoon. First we had heavy rain, then pea-sized hail, then some thunder.
^wtf? I'ts sunny and clear here in San Francisco. Guess them Santa Cruz and Pensinula mountains are catching uplifted storms.
I was going to say pea+ sized. It looks like it hit a lot harder in Gilroy where streets and lawns were nearly covered with white. http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local...173591831.html
When it had stopped hailing here, they interrupted the Giants win with a NWS warning about quarter-size hail and severe thunderstorms. I thought about moving my SUV into the garage, but it was over here. I know this is not a big deal to those who live in the mountains or the East, but it is rare in the Bay Area.
Just heard from Lava Girl that Walnut Creek got rain. Kings Beach had nothing except another incredible sunset.

I remember Oakland getting a severe deluge in October of the year I moved to CA. Coming from the rockies, the t-storms were pretty standard, even with large trees down and flooded drains. That was 2009. Anyone remember how that year turned out? Not saying this kind of weather in October predicts much, it's just the standard transitional Wx.
got a tiny bit of rain up on luther spires around 5
I think this predicts pretty much nothing. We have had snow in September and a crappy year and we have had no snow until December with an epic season. And this was far from standard. Thunder in SC yesterday = not standard. Low clouds this morning that actually may be marine layer. BA has finally come around to speaking the truth and stopped being super duper hopeful with looking at the models. He now says no snow through months end, and while I agree with him, I am still not sure how he gets so much confidence for predicting a week out plus. He now agrees storm on the 15th is staying pretty well north of us, and we could be seeing Indian Summer develop that week. Please do, as I want to go get baked. And be warm.
Oh, and the surf is running. Now we just need 85F off shores.
clear as a bell in T/D when I left Truckee last night around 8pm. When I got down near Newcastle there was crazy orange lightning in the sky somewhere over Lincoln. At first I thought it might be KISS or Iron Maiden laying down some pyro at the Wheatland Sleeptrain Amphitheatre. As I drove closer the lightning kept moving further southwest. The last bouts of it came down around Dixon close to 9/9:30. There was evidence of rain on Hwy 12 from Cordelia to Napa, too, but otherwise the drive was high and dry. My folks reported that it rained over in Marin, though.
Well well....what do I see on this radar map?
