Bed in a box is the stupidest idea ever.
Don’t do it.
I still like traditional.
But good luck trying to find a two sided flipable mattress.
One sided was a fucked up invention. So nice to flip and rotate from time to time.
Never had a sleep number mattress. The long term problem I guess is the air leaking.
But can confirm they have some awesome pillows.

I was just venting about bed in a box. Wife bought two twins. For overflow. Worst beds ever. Well no. Better than an air mattress. But not a real bed. Thank dog she resold them locally.

Still absolutely loving my Beautyrest Black after 10yrs. I got the middle of 5 firmness types called a luxury firm.
To get the latex top you have to spend $3,500 on a queen size Beautyrest Black. That is almost double my Saavta.

Toughest thing is to dial in the firmness. You basically have to guess and hope you were right. Can always throw a topper on if you guess really wrong.
Hopefully everyone knows the drill on the internet mattresses. All of these companies offer a full refund after X number of days if you don't like the mattress. Rather than pay for return shipping, these companies either have you donate the mattress to a non-profit or have someone pick it up for you. This someone works for the mattress manufacturer and picks up the mattress for free. In return, they are allowed to sell the mattress (minus warranty) and keep the profit.
I bought a 2k+ organic latex Avocado mattress that was used for a week for $500. Check out the reviews and once you decide what mattress you want, search craiglist and FB marketplace. If you live anywhere near a fairly large city you will find quite a few of these mattress resellers.

I might do that if I had a dry shed I could put the used mattress into on a hot summer day to nuke the bedbugs before brining it into my home.

The mattresses are sanitized and wrapped in plastic. The mattresses also had to be spotless and used with a mattress cover for the warranty refund. I have bought a few mattresses this way and have zero complaints. These folks normally have a storage unit filled with numerous brands to choose from. It actually isnt as sketchy as it soundsQuote:

I literally don’t understand where the latex would even be. I mean, my reference is a firm coil mattress with no pillow top. A basic mattress pad to keep stains off. And sheets.

Bought 2 Tempur-Pedic mattresses this year. Both medium but the queen is slightly firmer than the full. Both are the same thickness but if I sleep on my back with the queen I wake up with with a sore neck. Oddly on the full no pain whatsoever. All I can figure is maybe it's has to do with the boxspings. The queen has a new one and the full is on an older one. Not really sure if this a factor or different manufacturing location or use of materials. I bought them 6 months apart.
In other news my wife's frozen shoulder went away after a month and after a decade of rough sleep I'm finally sleeping better and waking up refreshed. I highly recommend giving a Tempur-Pedic a try.
My original Bed In A Box is the best mattress I have ever owned/slept on. I have slept on the 5k top of the line tempur pedics too. You are just paying for the name on those. Seriously.

I have come to the belief that most people just sleep on way too soft of a mattress and therefore have back/sleeping problems.
I sleep on my side, so I must have a small pillow between my knees to avoid a lower back issue. Got a latex pillow too and my fucked up neck is perfect again. Can not emphasize enough how important a great mattress and pillow is.

I like talalay better but if you use it as the top layer, it doesn't last at all. Its all personal, if you hate it I wouldn't blame you.
But if you bought a bed with Polyurethane foam, you fucked up.
Since I've started taking 200mg of magnesium daily per my doc all my aches and pains have gone away. No more lower back pain, knee, hip and I sleep much much better. Check it out. The Mayo Clinic page has info on the benefits of adding magnesium and sleep.

We bought the really nice hybrid Saavta mattress in a queen and it's been fantastic the two years we've had it. I am guessing a king with them is probably about two grand. I would skip the name brands based on All The Independents out there making quality stuff
We have the Saatva hybrid in a Cal King. Super comfy after 4 years. Can’t recall the price but less than comparable Sealy, Simmons etc. They aren’t the foldable mattresses in a boxQuote:
