At least they’re getting the opportunity for an education out of it. A hell of alot of the kids aspiring to be olympians are walking away broken and broke.

Never occurred to me that VT would have disproportionately more female coaches. I am trying to remember female coaches from other states I have seen and can only think of a few.
Another interesting thing is that, at least in Southern VT, for the past four or five years the number of female athletes (through U16, anyway) has been larger than for the boys. Optimistically that could translate into more female coaches down the road.
I think it would be a real benefit to the sport if we could get at least a decent percentage of female coaches. Ideally one day 50/50, but we're so far from that right now that it seems like an impossible goal at any point in the foreseeable future.
Tiger shaw???
What's his involvement w us ski team?? Dude used to be my coach racing 3s n 4s at bromley in early 80s.
Pres/CEO of USSA.
Big B still pretty much the same, I'm sure...
Any one-game/race championship is a crapshoot- superbowl, Indy 500, Golf/Tennis majors, etc. Thing is, the great ones will almost always win at least one, and will rightfully not be considered one of the greatest if they do not. to be great, you cannot pick and choose when you are great, and you especially cannot shrink when the lights are the brightest. Great ones rise to the occasion despite odds stacked against them.
the superbowl doesnt? Indy 500 doesnt? Weather, off days, injuries, mechanicals, etc all affect those teams/drivers/individuals. It would be easy to correlate any issue involved with ski racing to most sports. fact of the matter is that the great ones will outperform the competition when it counts the most.
Jim Kelly is not great because his "team" did not win the Superbowl? Defense counts. Weather is the same for both teams.
Car racing...again they're all in the same conditions the entire race... everyone. Baja style can be slightly different I suppose. I don't know the speads on the starts.
Kelly and marino have huge knocks on their careers because they couldnt win the big one. Crowd noise, isnt the same for both teams. Weather plays to advantage or disadvantage of a team's and individuals tendencies. If rain starts while a team is running their 2 minute drill to win the game, it sure as hell makes it harder for that QB... etc, etc, etc.
The bottom line is that the truly great ones in their sport are great enough for long enough to outlast any truly flukish factors that make it impossible to win the big one.
Bode might be right about her. [emoji3]

Hirscher won too. WC win 51 I believe
She only win by three tenths of a second, she's slipping.
Watching her being followed by the camera guy was painful. She is such a sweetie. Giving her cape to the handicapped girl. Class act. You know there's a lot more to being on the World Cup than just skiing fast and winning. She does it well

Being Canadian, I find it hard to root for other nation's athletes (child-like, I know) but it's easy to cheer for a winner like this young lady. Class act, and a great role model for all. It'd be cool to see her smoke the field in Korea.

And another one. By 1.62 I believe
Won every WC race in 2018 so far.
She’s outta control. 2nd woman in history to win the first 4 starts in a year.
Her next big challenge is surviving the NBC pump-and-dump olympic onslaught. They will beat her for ratings like a rented mule.
Even her bindings are RED.
Gep should send her some mag stickers, I will buy.
True dominance from Shriffin and Hirscher.
Hirscher wins again as well, and again by a slim margin. Watching Kristofferson react to Hirscher constantly beating him by the slimmest of margins is telling- 3 in a row by 0.11, 0.17, and 0.16. The first one in Zagreb he was angry and cussing in the leaders chair, both races in Adelboden he through up his hands like WTF do I have to do to beat this guy? Believe Kristofferson has already set a record for most 2nd place finishes in a year.
She will not have a problem. Her parents/agents have a plan for handling this and will tell NBC where to get off, if necessary. NBC will get what they need, Shiffy will get what she needs (probably including two gold medals), and all will continue to be well.
Don't believe in jinxes--I think she ends up w/90+ WC wins, crazy as that might sound.
Seriously. Kristofferson is having a fantastic year, but Hirscher is just making it look ordinary.
You gotta feel for Vhlova, Hansdottar, Holdener, etc. like you do for Kristofferson.
Fantastic skiers, every one of them but just going up against juggernaughts.
I could see a competition between Hirscher and Shiffrin for most wins all time. I know he's older, but he's also a more consistent GS skier.
Poor Henrik. He looks more and more desheartened. Hirscher is a monster. But the gap, if constant, is slim. Henrik may have hope to beat Marcel, to find those tenths of second.
But to run against Mikaela ? It must be devastating. How can you hope to close the gap when the second best is constantly 2 seconds behind ? She's absolutly crushing her opponents.
