Looks like Mars.
In the eye of a hurricane there is quiet, for just a moment, a yellow sky
Tokatee up by Blue River, it still there? God, it’s a slice of heaven 👏
Fork! Fire just flared back up! I called the FD about the smoldering stumps yesterday and they said they just had to burn out. Guess they decided to do just that.

Not filtered. No one ever seen anything like this. The closest for me is St Helens eruption. I was in Eastern Wa. after the blast. This is more dramatic. The color of the light is disquieting. It feels like you are in a mad max movie.
No words.............this year can just go right to hell..........

Okanogan County Sheriff Tony Hawley says his department will treat this incident as a homicide unless further investigation confirms that the Cold Springs Canyon Fire was not human-caused. kanogan County when the fire surrounded them
Vibes, KQ. Hang in there, this should settle out by the weekend.
Jeezus. That's fucking awful. :(
MS or I could facetime or audio with you and talk you through putting stump holes out.
I’m off work at 9:30 eastern...
Shovel, hoe, bucket, leather gloves....
Generally: dig down so you can follow the smoldering roots, rob the smoldering parts of their heat by mixing the smoldering parts with cold dirt and mud. Keep digging and mixing until you’ve chased down all the smoldering parts. Feel for heat carefully with the back of your hand.
Obviously be cautious with your surroundings...unstable trees/limbs, power lines, zombies, grizzly bears...
We can do it “together” over the phones if that would help.
The irony is that most attempts to photograph the bizarre lighting result in the camera filtering it to appear more normal. No, it's really that bad. It's pretty much dark out; street lights are on. Another strange thing is that (thankfully) the AQ isn't all that bad, as the smoke seems to mostly be far above us. Also, it's pleasantly cool out; was supposed to be in the 80s today, and it's currently mid-60s, basically night-time temps.
We aren't in the thick of this, at all (our local fires seem to be winding down). But still, here we are, in mid-day orange twilight.
All National Forests in CA now closed.
So kind!
FD is on it now with a dozer, water and chainsaws. They said they're going to pull it out into the open plowed field. Hopefully this will be it. Would rather this didn't happen but glad it was daylight and not at night when no one was awake to see it. I did monitor it last night but yanno... I got to sleep sometime.

Cold Springs/Pearl Hill Fire shot about 5 hours after it was reported to have started at 2:30am on Labor Day. We were camped on Big Hill above Lake Chelan.
Younger brother just texted me that he's evacuating Estacada, OR. Have heard most businesses are closing up and sending employees home.
