I guess dark beers like porters and stouts are an aquired taste that I haven’t developed, although I’ve tried many times. Whenever I hear “porter”, I can’t help thinking about that part in James Joyce’s Ulysses where some drunk character (Bloom maybe?) relieves himself into a bucket of porter that was set out in the street for workmen who were working on a job there. The implication being he thought it looked like a comfort station.
I like Yuengling and Shiner Bock, but that’s about as dark as I’ll go.
