2 days on the 196 at Baker. Today was great. Maybe it is me or maybe it is the extra length of the 196 but these are no where close to squad stiff. They charge, carve, slarve with ease. Hands down the best ski ever, and no where close the the raging animal some claim. Not sure if I have a need for the Super7s anymore. These skis inspire confidence like no other but have a very surprising playful side to them. 4Frnt never change this ski, it is perfect!
After a couple of days on the 196 rens I'm very pleased with them. Surprising how well they can charge, carve, float, slarve, stomp. I mounted them at 93cm from the tail, but wish I had gone with 91cm or 92cm; There's an awful lot of tail that can make tight turns through the trees a little tricky.
FYI, I went 92 from the tail and think it is perfect.
92 is Erics rec so seemed good, can't wait to ski em on next trip.
Still have a pair of 186 left, and a couple of the 196 left. We also have a 186 Ren mounted for demo as well.
Can someone give the details on a straight tape pull from tip to tail on the 186's and 196's?
I would like to compare to my current quiver...now I am getting paranoid.
thanks
Received a pair of 186 last night! One of the prettiest pair of skis I've ever seen. Can't wait to get out on them.
After the WooTests get here, the quiver will finally be complete!
Plan to post a big comparison/head to head review similar to your 4FRNT one after I have some more time on the skis. Limiting factor will be injuries and lack of snow, not skis to test. Should get 202 L138, 196 Protest, 187 WooTest, 186 Renegade, 190 L120, 191 Lhasa Fat, and maybe OG C&D.
My conjecture re: HOJI vs. WooTest: I honestly don't think they'll be all that similar. From what I've read, the HOJI will have more sidecut, a stiffer flex, and less taper than the WooTest. The HOJI might make a great resort daily driver, but I think the WooTest will rule in the backcountry. If they would have made a narrower Renegade, I think that would be more similar.
anyone tried the 196s in AK conditions? if so would you recommend it or would you go fatter?
^^having been there a few times, I think 115-125 is the perfect width WITH some sidecut. you are aren't necessarily skiing blower and you definitely want to be able to grab an edge when you need it. I have taken 138s up there twice and the second time switched to Atomic Atlases and would never switch back....
sorry to digress....plus search, there are tons of threads on the topic.
499 EUR here in Germany is a bargain.
Finally got to pick my rens today!!!
Pretty jacked! They look amazing in person! The rocker was a little more subtle than I expected though.
Probably won't mount them till next year. Thinking guardians.
planing to get a pair in next year Renegade or Hoji..
how do u compare with JJ`s these skis?
