Well thank you. Here's some pics from Monday:

Went out for a walk in the mountains and figured I'd ski some of the more mellow spots I enjoy, especially when flying solo. Found a lot of these:

Pit results that didn't make me too confident even on the "safe" slopes. So I skipped a meadow or two.
Found a stout wind crust under 4-6" of new around 7500-8000' on N/NE aspects and a couple of naturals that had initiated on it. One natural then stepped down to the ground.

Over here-ish was pretty good. No one wanted to center punch the bowl. Good decision I think.

A lot of people out, but not too many choosing the same shots as us. Some wind slabs up on exposed stuff, but other than that nothing unstable. But we kept it pretty mellow. N-facing dry recrystallized skied fast and fun. SW-facing exit was actually quite enjoyable. The sun crust had softened for nice spring-like mashed potatoes at noon:30 to 1ish. Probably was quite sloppy later on.
Ran into a group of 10 or so British-out-of towners back by the lake. Fun folks if you run into them over the next few days. It's refreshing to run into visitors who are well-prepared and know their shit.
wow! are things that bad that this is on page 4. note to self- stop planning utah trips for the first week of feb.
yeah, i been keeping up. just hoping to open this up and see everything had magically healed overnight.
Upper elevation south facing was really good early in the day. Most aspects with any South got baked by days end.
I'm a little tardy on this vid, but I'm still giggling like a little girl over last weeks storm.
holy tele face shots. judging by the way N facing aspects at the bird are skiing, there must be good shit out there. just wish it was safer and i wasn't an avy jong fresh out of my level 1 course.
Dangerous avalanche conditions are occuring or are imminent. Backcountry travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
A Special Avalanche Advisory continues for the mountains of Utah with a particular Warning in the Logan area mountains. Deep unsurvivable avalanches may be triggered on a variety of aspects and elevations. We have had three avalanche fatalities in the backcountry this last week alone…Those without expert level avalanche skill should avoid being on, under, or adjacent to steep slopes.
We have a dangerous, unmanageable situation in the backcountry. The danger is CONSIDERABLE with deep, unsurvivable avalanches breaking near the ground. These can be triggered on, below or adjacent to these steep slopes. Also, the danger of wet avalanches will rise to CONSIDERABLE today with daytime heating. Avoid the steep sun-expose slopes by mid-morning.

^^^thanks for your observation of a web page. Super helpful.
So, apparently there was a slide at The Canyons that sparked a full-on rescue event. Fortunately, it was a false alarm and nobody was caught. Anyways, where is this? Is this the stuff just off the top of Peak 5 and just on the south side of the ropeline there?
http://utahavalanchecenter.org/files.../Picture11.png
Yes, that is my understanding, although I believe it is to the north side, right as you get off the Peak 5 lift and head out that gate.
What bothers me is that some folks would set off a slide that big, and then not go and tell someone that all the members of their party were accounted for. Sounds like the Canyons patrol did an all out rescue effort for no reason whatsoever. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
^you sir are correct

Found the most epic of conditions yesterday... West facing

For 5,500 feet.
Also, here's a teaser video for more photos to come. High avy danger shred, desert road trip, Umphrey's Mcgee live and Lone Peak south face... enjoy!

sick photos and video!
Zach, very nice!
My obs from the sheeps pen,
Soli Patrol opened Fantsy ridge for the 1st time this season.
Latest I remeber it ever opening, best it's been in years no cables nessesary.
surpringly few tracks in East bowl and skinner in to Flanigans. Appeared to be Crazy solo ski cut across backside Honeycomb hourglass.
Cutting across Michigan City S facing Getting thick with crusts felt underneath.
Both Red and Blue Turdcarriers busy
West bowl hammered and bananna days ,patsey marley etc.
a couple lines in upper Days and lower draw
No track in the meadows
N facing nose of Davenport great no instablities noted.
Sweet trade route skinner in props.
Pit results I don't write this stuff down but,
N NW facing ~10k Days 35 degrees 8' depth varible ct from 15- 26 averaging 20 failing q2 on top of 18" of 4 finger large grained EEK as my partner called it.
A couple higher ct's failed on facets between big storm cycle and older snow
12" fist 12" 4finger 36-40" 1finger consolidated slab
a very slight crust, 2' of one finger I say 2 finger mod X but my partners don't allow it
to a faint knifecrust to 12-18" of eek.
Skied great slightly sun crusted on days exit
Siiiiiiiiick video, best BC helmet cam stuff I have seen here, possibly anywhere. The desert lines were incredible, huge props for getting some in rare conditions down there. Lone peak stuff was super cool too, that minigolf stuff lower down looked fun as hell. Too bad it was so overexposed, how VIO can charge so much for a cam that shoots so poorly in full sun is beyond me.
I couldn't agree more. 90% of that day's footage was unusable due to overexposure. GoPro for next season?
Maybe I missed a bit, but if we ski mass avi danger and live, we rock. If we die we are a gaper. Have I got that??? Better make sure I live, wouldn't want to be an amateur.
^^^^^ If you cunt up this thread with stupid posts and worthless obs your an asshole
Thanks for your post asshole
Sorry I forgot the-make sure yu swear heaps-that makes you cool.
