and the humane society (who won't let you have a cat unless you sign an affidavit attesting to never letting it outside)

Sign the paper that you won't let them out. How would they ever know? I've signed and cat still goes out. I think it's just a precaution.
I had a pure breed Russian Blue (ironically, got hit by a car and yes I signed the paper). What a joy that cat was.

My GF over there got her cats through a cat foster parent - had nothing to do with the shelter. She got them off Craigslist listed as a rescue somewhere in Kent. Lady did it out of her home.

When was last time you saw him??
He's chipped???
He's an indoor/outdoor cat - was a barn cat that decided to "move it on up" about 5 years ago and now lives in the house but is let out when he wants. He generally likes to hunt at night esp. during the summer but is always at the door in the morning to come in and sleeps on the bed during the day. Last saw him around 7:30pm yesterday.
Don't have any neighbors close enough to have picked him up and he won't go to strangers at all.

When Bones was sick I knew exactly where to find him. In the neighbors hedge. It was like his second home.
