My lady says somebody's going to have to drive me there.
By then won't it be easier and less expensive to have Rekal just implant the memory of seeing the eclipse?
One of the things I absolutely dig about living in Tahoe is that you can go to the movies in the morning and ski in the afternoon...in August, no less!
Went and saw The Dark Tower this morning in Sparks. Giving it a 2.75 / 5. Had some good acting from the leads (Elba and McConaughey) and some decent action sequences, but overall it felt rushed and as if it glossed over the source material rather hastily (for the record, I have not read any of the Dark Tower novels).
Followed up the cinematic experience with a late afternoon schuss out near "The Nipple." The area is still holding nicely and if you live in Carson City, Minden, Meyers or South Lake, it's a quick hit; probably like 45-minutes (it took me 1.5 hours from Reno and I got back to Truckee in about 1 hour and 50 minutes, fwiw).

Off topic -- but since I assume there are lots of Bay area mags who watch this thread:
I've got a weekend to kill in the bay area early november -- Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Was thinking of trying to sneak in a quick backpacking trip somewhere out there. Any recommendations on something driveable from the Bay area that won't be a shit show and I can get back to SFO by mid-evening?
That's a great idea.

If it wasn't going to be a million fucking degrees I'd suggest Henry Coe or Pinnacles, but those are way better in Fall Winter Spring
Oops sorry...reading comprehension...

Squaw may be getting more crowded soon

How are the Chinese skiers going to like squaw, with its lack of beginner terrain?
Plus they missed the boat with selling condos to them, China is cracking down on sending funds abroad.

Sierra Cement and I headed out to The Sisters on Thursday and...well...skied two legitimate laps before 11am.
Solid day out on the skis. Snowpack in the middle of the run is about 10-15 feet deep of solid snow...its definitely going to be there all year in some form.
However, getting thin up in the upper steep choke especially with the temps this week, there's a few bergschrunds forming.
Enjoy some pics why don't ya'...full video and TR soon.

Sweet beta, was thinkin about heading down there again this week, looks like she barely goes in this pic
:)
The WRL stuff I posted was actually a long drive (2 hours, only because it was 4x4 action that required going 10 mph) and a short hike (20-minutes).
I took pix of the backside of Castle Peak and it looked cooked. Are we talking the sorta NE slope looking out over the Peter Grub Hut meadow? Or are you talking the Coon Canyon backside? Basin Peak looked decent, though.
sweet pics 666. that actually looks like a hell of a lot of fun.
Come to Santa Cruz. Rt 1 south - scenic coastal drive. Head up to Henry Cowell or Fall Creek for redwoods, and surf at Cowells Beach. If you need them, rentals and lessons available. Zip over 17 and up 280 to get back to SF. IF you head this way, I can give you options for eating out.
I'll just leave this here...
