I see that fail video now. Maybe there is a learning moment of don't run a deck until you know how to snowmobile.

Besides some sidehill strategy, understanding that sleds work on momentum and use...the...fuckin'...brake! are probably the the most important skills. And in order to be able to do that your clutching has to be fairly dialed and you need to get the whole game of burn brake and blip the throttle at your primary's engagement spot.

So many people have sweet sleds and can rip around in the meadow but they don't really get clutching. Snowmobiles work on Magic!

Oh, for the most part all parking lots are icy. Get a traction ladder even if it is homemade.

163 track in a 6.5ft bed. The truck definitely handles way better with the sled in than it does empty - similar to how it did when I ran a shell and bed platform. I do run airbags, usually around 20psi with the sled in, but it still does fine if I forget to fill them.

That’s the idea setup imo. I rarely have passengers so don’t need the quad cab, and not as long as the 8 foot bed so still easy to daily drive and fit down FS roads.

Edited to say: that truck with a headache rack would be ideal. More protection from the loading fail video.

"Ideal Set Up" seems like good Redneck Speak for life goals and dreams! But it's a journey not a destination.

FlyK (which for years in my brain I pronounced "flick" despite knowing your name), I measured my Gen 5 with the 34" front end and the out to out on the skis is something like 40". So I think Taco guys need to check that the skis fit between the wheel wells. Because that is not make or break, but it certainly makes it a lot easier.

And no you don't get 900 parking spots you can use your drive on drive of trailer without moving. I tend to avoid the business but fuck, why is it so hard for people to understand that your parking spot and your load/unload spot can be different places.

I mean over at the Vortex of Retardation (aka Rabbit Ears) there is decade long social media and signage campaign about courteous parking. It makes Berthoud look like a Swiss OCD Convension.

Home built, started in June.
-Yamaha RX1 motor and gearbox with reverse
-chain drive to 1 ton truck differential. (chain drive differential)
-brake steer
-1800lbs

Have been sorting out issues here and here, broke an axle yesterday because I suck at welding axles. So bought a new axle and having fab shop do that part of the welding. Otherwise has been working well.

Cooked with Textron, who never seemed to be interested in powersports anyway. Bad news for the sport if they're cooked for good.

Tough time for powersports in general. KTM etc.

Starting to pick up in the Purcell's. Couple video grabs..very reactive storm layer on micro features stayed off anything of true consequence the other day. 40 cm of pow was very welcome. First day on the new whip and first day post op ankle surgery.

All I know is that I'm riding the best mtn sled ever built right now and couldn't care less about WHO built it or if they'll build anything else in a few years. You brand loyal tribalists are the result of successful marketing of corporations........and I'll keep updating to the best sled built regardless of who puts their name on it. Besides, someone will probably buy Cat and then it's biz as usual. Brand competition benefits the riders and you'd be better off if Cat stayed in the game.
The assumption is I only ride one brand.......truth is I've owned them all and am not brand loyal to one.....but I know my Cat towed out a 9r 3x last year lol

I've seen them all break. And its the rider not the whip.

Speaking of breaking: snapped off my handlebars in some mean crust, hose clamped and ski strapped my way home, a pal welded it up and its back together as of today! First easy fix of the year…i feel pretty good about it and my pal has some good karma plus gas and beer money coming.

God dammit I get it now.

Having owned two sleds (one a POS trail sled - but gets job done for us) and a 2009 RMK 700 I never had the chance to really get out and ride.

Dumped about a 18 inches over a few day stretch to bring the base upto around 2.5/3 feet int he little hills by my cabin and took the RMK for a rip and had a blast. Up and down the hills, working side hilling, turning etc. Had a pretty much blank canvas over a couple square miles. Even throttled into it on some bumps and got the front skis up in the air.

What a god dam blast.

Yes I know the helmet is under gunned but it's all I had.

Wish i had more time/money to do more skiing and more sledding
