Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

Yesterday at Alta, get on the Collins chair and this kinda goofy looking 30 year old guy immediately pulls the bar down. Not a big deal in of itself but up until a couple of years ago Alta had no safety bars so you can pretty much assume the person that pulls the bar down is not a local. (Parents with little kids an exception). I ask him where he is from and he says NY, I mention to him I knew he was not local, said it in a polite way, he was not offended. He says I always pull the bar down. Ok so far no big deal. He then starts talking about, where he skis in the East, what resorts are good, etc etc, non stop chatter. Says he used to compete in big air competition, seems odd, big air guy pulls the bar down but then the last thing. "I had to stop competing when we had our second kid, my life insurance policy would not cover me if I was killed.

wow, he got called out for not being a local? I'm surprised he didn't kill himself out of sheer depression afterwards.

Chairlifts terrify me. I love the "safety bar". If someone told me "I know you're not a local because you pulled the bar down", I'd let them know that "I know you're a local because you're a pretentious asshole"

Personally, I prefer a bar just because it lets my legs rest. I dont care how core it is to not put it down

I prefer the bar when snowboarders are present. I realize that's an impossibility at alta, but I can't stand it when those fuckers rest their shit on my skis.

I only put the bar down when I'm throwing snowballs.

The bar makes a useable surface to do rails of coke off of. Bonus if they've got those giant plastic ads or trail map things on them.

i just use one of those sippy cups that has a straw.

not so much gaper quotes, just made everyone around us laugh.

buddy and i are about to get on the mountaintop lift at vail sunday, two patrollers with some fat skis alternate in front of us. my buddy (not a gaper, goes pretty hard actually) says "where you going with those things?" kinda wondering where the good spots are. one of the patrollers half-turns and in total douchebag fashion says "anywhere we want."

same day, were walking back through the village to the shuttle, pass this old hag in a full fur coat and fur hat. buddy looks right at her and says "your outfit is hideous." smiled and didnt break stride. got a couple of laughs from strangers within earshot.

Gaperism: I embrace it. Actually even though I know where the hell I'm going, I still like to stand in front of the giant map at the top of chairs and point to it with my pole.

Up in the bc this weekend with a buddy and his two boys, who chose to hike and sled down on Zipfy's (Rad freestyle mini luges). My buddy says "Hey guys keep it cool, you know how fast you can get going on those."

Kid: "Ahh Dad, you only YOLO once!" and they flew off down the mountain, we laughed.
