I run Dissector 3C Exo front with a Ground Control T7 on the rear (880g) and have liked it well enough, coming from Forekaster v1 front and rear, previously. My wife likes her Nobby Nic SuperGround Speedgrip (850g) as a rear tire and the few rides I've done, it seems comparable.Quote:

Looking for a new front for the wife’s bike. Timid rider just getting back into it and doesn’t like to lean the bike or go super fast. Currently has a dissector but thinking more intermediate knobs would be better. Lightish fastish with stickyish rubber in a 29x2.4. She’s had nobby Nick in the past and they seem solid, anything else worth looking at?
Same scenario with my wife. First summer getting back into it. On the front I went with the new Forekaster 2.4wt EXO Maxxterra and on the back the Rekon 2.4wt EXO Maxxterra.Quote:

Timid rider who doesn't lean the bike - - suggests to me that if that NN is newish, move it to the front, put something very fast rolling on the rear to make it easy to pedal.
Nobby Nic front and XR4 rear is what I have on my wife’s ancient Mojo. I would happily ride that combo on long trail rides, feels pretty efficient and solid without giving up too much grip.
I tried to convince my wife to go HD+NN on her Ripley this Spring (to replace NN+NN) but she didn’t click with the HD reviews she read. I tried to get her on the Dissector+NN plan as well, but no dice.Quote:

I've been running the Barzo/Mezcal 2.35 combo on my Downcountry bike and this year. It's been a good, fast combo for me that has held up well for me. I have ran them hard and fast thru a lot of sharp rocks, loose on hard, etc. and what not and they taken it. Don
Anyway, the rear (Mezcal) is starting to wear down after a lot of miles (600+? + whatever was on them when I got the bike used) , I stuck on a Rekon to get by while I buy another one, but I noticed that Vittoria has the pair bundled for $102 here:

That's a decent deal. It's too bad it's only for the XC versions without sidewall protection. Ms CE needs tires for the Breck Epic, but she's deathly afraid of flats. For those that ride in the Breckenridge area, what XC ish tires do you like?
I'm looking for a new front tire. I know what I would normally go buy, and have my internal biases, so I'm looking for recommendations, possibly to change my option, open my eyes to a different option I would never consider.
150/140 sub 30lb bike, no inserts, Colorado dry trails, hard pack and loose over hard, not technical. Mostly climbing then descend style riding, not long XC style riding.
Current rear tire is a newish Maxxis DHR II 2.4 3C Maxx Terra EXO
LOOKING TO REPLACE A FRONT: Maxxis DHF 2.5 3C Max Terra EXO.
Suggestions, open to anything?
If you're running a DHR rear, you obviously aren't prioritizing rolling resistance, so I'd say it's hard to beat the Assegai front. They just have so much traction everywhere. But not so much on the drift-then-hook-up "feature" of DHF/R, so maybe you won't like it.
For tread I'm digging the combo of Spec. Eliminator front and Purgatory rear.Quote:

Kryptotal-F rolls 3x faster than the Assguy, and grips almost as well.
Another vote for Assegai. So much grip. Corners better than DHF, as mentioned, less drifty ie: no dead spot due to intermediate knobs. Hooks up a lot harder for me like, it took some getting used to and caught me out a couple times. I'll take that over front tire drift in a heatbeat. Brakes WAY better.
Came here to say that going from Assegai/DHR to Kryptotal/Dissector in analogous compound and casing I went and immediately PR'd all my local stuff both up and down. Probbbbbably mostly the dissector but the Kryptotal is no slouch eitherQuote:

Went to the bike store yesterday and they had some Spec Ground Controls on sale for $40, grabbed one and mounted it up last night and got it seated. etc. Went to bed and woke up to a load bang a 2am. Went out to the garage and the new tire had blown out. Looks like the casing separated - the bead has expanded quite a bit and there's places in the sidewall where its bulging out. I had it pumped up to 30psi....Glad that happened in the garage vs. on the trail..
