Parked bikes at bottom of each run. Only a little hike a bike on way in due to ice on highway, otherwise easy to ride around any piles of snow. Lots of rock fall, but PCT'ers cleared trail, so all rideable. Throop isn't as good as normal with the steeper lines melted out. Bunch more pictures on my strava.
^ Single-track through rockfall, or passable towing a two-wheel / two-kid baby trailer? Trailer is super handy, but sometimes being able to carry everything on the bike would be nice.
Caltrans shows closure at Islip and Big Pines, wonder if still open to Grassy Hollow. Anyone ever park at Hwy 39 closure and go up past Islip?
Probably be a pita with a trailer...but I would say that even with a clear road. I also haul two kids on my bike without a trailer, so in general, am against trailers. Light and fast is my approach. Bike in with ski boots on your feet, aframe the skis on the pack. It is not that far. Although the ride up from Vincent to grassy hollow does suck at the end of the day.
Caltrans map showed it closed at Big Pine when I parked at Grassy hollow. Who knows. My guess is they have closed there because they have bunch of equipment parked near Vincent. Never parked at 39, that would be more up hill to get in and I generally am trying to get on show as soon as possible.

It's a month and a half late, but here are a few shots from closing day at Baldy.
I really couldn't believe just how nice the snow was. When you are making turns in snow like that you are lucky, whenever it is. When you are doing so in socal on May 20.....https://vimeo.com/843999422?share=copy

I think this has got to be the latest Baldy has ever been open. Have fun
I archived my ancient Southland Ski Server TRs.
A true powder morning May 14, 1998: https://bestsnow.net/TRsFTO/19980514baldytc.HTML
I tried to repeat this experience May 5 this year, but new snow was super thick and difficult: https://www.firsttracksonline.com/bo...-5-2023.14770/

I skied May 19 this with an eastern visitor: https://www.firsttracksonline.com/bo...19-2023.14778/ What was covered was good skiing but it was nowhere in the class with 1998.
I see a very favorable TR here from April 7. That was probably my best Baldy day this season: https://www.firsttracksonline.com/bo...-7-2023.14753/
I was there 3 days in early March but chair 4 was never running, it was much more crowded and snow was more difficult than the April corn.

That's some great stuff Tony C!
It's particularly cool to see the shots of Stockton Flats.
TonyC! You rock. I love the info on your site bestsnow.net.
My wife landed a spot a one year spot at C-S but we are going need to live within ten minutes from the hospital because of her call schedule. We will be out this winter to look at neighborhoods/buildings but I am apprehensive about the rental situation.
Is anyone in or know the area and have advice to offer? Happy to talk over PM to not clog up the main forum.
Cedars-Sinai?
That's gonna be tough. A popular area and pricey.
Look up some local realtors and email them- one may be able to set you up with the right price-point rental that's reasonably close.
bump for the coming rain event and mtn road closures. you are welcome.
I can see chair 3 opening late next week/weekend looks like maybe 4-5 ft on the way

How long do you think it will take lift opts to get chair 3 running after a week of snow like this?

It will certainly be interesting with everything coming.
Here is the mountain report:
https://www.mtbaldyresort.com/mountain-report
They are a small operation, so you never know just how quickly they will be able to get everything moving.
Looking at radar, I'm thinking chair 1 is already iced up. So no way they would "get Lift #3 rolling as soon as LATE tomorrow morning." But maybe it will warm up today and melt out chair 1. 32 degrees at 6964 already.
Would be nice if these storms would hit at night. Forecast has everything continuing to be mostly daytime moisture.
Not enough to open chair 3, needs one more storm.
Currently, the snow level is reported around 7500-8000 ft. I know its supposed to lower later today and Tuesday, but with less amount of liquid.
Latest update reports 22" of snow on Thunder mountain. Whats the over under on the digout? Wednesday?
I'm not a heavy Baldy rider but Wednesday maybe they get lift 1 running by midday.
Any word if they dug out Chair 3?
Report claims 85% chance by noon Thursday
Would be great, raining at my place right now figuring it's got to be snowing there.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...214e1e824f.jpg

So who hit it?
Windboard on chair 1, but coverage is really, really good, great base snow. Skyline is mostly windboard and big drifts, soft spots in areas sheltered from the wind. Bring your loosest skis.
Went to Baldy today and skied 11:30-2:30, coverage is solid, sun was shining, snow was soft. Good day!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ea83ffbaa3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...33c5033429.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...69092be6e5.jpg

I went out on 2/15 with Colin Sander with the goal of linking up a few things around San Gorgonio area. We left pull off on rt 38 at about 5am, topped out on Alto Diablo at 8:30am, skied down and around backside of Charlton, up to Jepson at 11am, dropped E face of Jepson, melted snow for water, skinned and booted up Big Draw at 12:30, over to San Gorgonio at 2pm, dropped N aspect off San Gorgonio, made our way back to NE flank of Charlton and started skinning up before dropping N aspect at about 4pm and skiing out to the car in time for sunset. Felt great to cross so much terrain, about 17.75 miles and 7.4k vert in total.

Great to see. Looks like another respectable dump in the forecast.

Anyone planning on hitting Baldy on Saturday? I'll be up there riding Ravens or Revolts
Skied 11-2 today. I was going to go up yesterday but my kid got an ear infection and I had to take him to the doctor. All good now though. Chair 4 is skiing great, too bad that chair's uncomfortable AF. Chair 3 didn't soften up as much as I had hoped but a nice day once the sun came out a little after 11.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f2e793a395.jpg

Thanks for the report!
I'm heading up tomorrow, and probably Sunday as well. I'm hoping for Andy's and Herb's to soften up. If not, chair 4 should still get some sun.
I'm curious to see how the north facing stuff, Goldridge and Robin's Trees, held up.
Here is a clip from Sunday 2/11. I know it's a bit late, but the wind buff in Emile's was really fun that day and the coverage is great. We skied down to the lot under the lift, I was with my wife and didn't want to hit Bentley's, but a buddy who did ski it that day said it was classic windbuff.

Overcast in LA today but bluebird at Baldy until about 1p when the notch got socked in good with some clouds... coverage is down but still solid

Thinking I will hit up Baldy ski area tomorrow 3/21 (Th) and Mt. BP Friday. Forecast has a little weather for the weekend, but looking sunny and warm next couple days.
I'm trying to figure out the best window for San Gorgonio in the next few weeks. Socalsnow's latest post makes it sound like everything is soft and not refreezing overnight but noaa temperature forecasts kind of conflict with that. Anyone been out above 9000' lately who can speak to current conditions (before this weekend's storm that is)?
I would assume that upper elevations are firmly into a spring melt-freeze daily cycle now but hard to tell without being out there.
