the woodstove in the background makes me shudder. i literally leave a puddle of sweat when on the trainer - i'm in the garage with the door open.
props to all of you able to do this fully inside.

Haha. I haven’t even fired that thing up yet, it’s been so mild. Box fan is key. When I first set things up with the new trainer last winter I was sweating my ass off and left a massive puddle and realized what I was missing.
For sandbagging purposes, I’m at approx 6500ft

Just out for a rip are ya bud?
Couple things I’ve learned from dipping my toes in the water (except for the Zwift familiarization ride, all mine have been erg mode training programs).
1- A functioning cadence sensor is really important. I’m using a boost-spaced MTB with unfashionably longish chainstays (Banshee Titan) and 170mm cranks, so my pedal axle comes nowhere near the Tacx sensor. I added a Garmin to the crank. Erg is murder without a good cadence reading.
2- As a winch-and-plummet mountain biker, I’ve never had to learn to spin. I did a lot of road touring in high school, but that’s a long ways behind me now. Erg is also murder with a low cadence.
Party Time! Let’s go y’all.
I goofed and forgot about the ride tonight. I didn't accept the meetup so never got the reminder. Doh! Have fun guys.
That was fun! Jamal and ?, blew it up on the last climb!

Dee Hubbs
jamal
buttahflake
wending

scharny

i think a one legged rider may be lying...
That climb is only 1 minute 20 seconds. Only 450m or 1500ft. I just looked it up on Strava.
If you asked me I’d say it’s like 4 minutes long!
Which ride was harder, Tuesday or Thursday?
I thought tonight was harder. Lap three was tough work. Jamal isn’t human. I kept up with him for a while but 7 watts per kg and anything north of 165 bpm is just not in my physiology. It was fun!

yeah wattage map was a bit more red today.

This week was tougher. Third lap was a good strong pace, but I liked it. For me 3 laps over 2.5 watts makes that last climb hard. I put my head down on that climb for 1:20 and try to keep it above 4.0-4.5 watts, and then hope I can hold above 3.0 all the way to the finish.
You can see Scharny chasing us down in your heads up view in the picture. He’s the green dot about to make contact, I had to punch it to grab his wheel, he come by hot!
yeah i just watched y'all go by. i'm screwed on the flats with 1x11 gearing and a 34 up front but it's nice to push harder than i would solo
Yeah I felt bad using that power up but I was like “I’m gonna keep up with Jamal”. Then I feel like I’m gonna faint and reality set in.

They both challenged me - great group though and i look forward to continuing to get better on that 8 minute hill of hell
zwift setup.. how to tell someone is a bachelor

Yeah, I hear ya. You guys are making me work. My max heart rate on my Garmin for these last three group rides was 195, 201 and 191. I'm not many years behind you. Have I mentioned how much I hate being out of bike shape? Very few real rides in the last 5 years will do that to you. But I'm committed to getting back. Also as you can tell from the power graph below I have no earthly idea how to ride these zwift groups rides smoothly. It looks like Superman's fortress of solitude or some shit.
Anyway, these rides are helping. Thanks boys. See ya Tuesday.

I’m pretty new to race effort fueling strategies, but I’m finding the intensity of a typical Zwift ride is too high for me to enjoy/want to eat “real” food during a ride, and at the same time, the last thing I want to do is hop off the trainer to eat something “real” and extend my overall ride time.
So that has me thinking I need to look at an easier way to ingest calories while hammering out a long Zwift ride or race - anyone have any experience/like with high calorie sports drinks like Skratch Superfuel?
I prefer the SIS gels, they are not at all like GU. Really thin and viscous, super easy to get down when you gasping for air on a Zwift race. It’s what the pros use. I see them attached to almost every bottle handed out of the team cars. It tastes good and it works really fast.
Oh cool I’ll check those out for sure. I’m not opposed to GU at all but I find after like 3-4 I kind of burn out on them. Something thinner would def help that
Not sure where you buy your nutrition from, but The Feed usually has some good holiday deals. And I really like you can but one pack of this, and one pack of that, and not have to commit to a whole box of something that might not work for you.
How much you eating over a typical hour long ride? My philosophy is that if you're properly fed the day or two before and have supplement in your drink, then anything under two hours just doesn't require extra food. YMMV of course but I see people over eating and over drinking (especially on race efforts) all the time. For example, if you're well hydrated going into a cross race lasting 45 mins I see little need to carry a bottle.
DH, we doing the same two-ride-schedule this week?
My lovely wife has informed me that I am dropping sweat on the rug and should consider a mat underneath. That was not exactly how she phrased it.
Anybody got a good mat they like that is reasonably priced? What are you guys using?
I’m the same as you. Outdoors, on sub 2 hour rides I don’t bring food or water. Indoors I do drink on those rides since I get so hot, but don’t eat.
It’s the 2+ hour, race type rides I really need a strategy to fuel. Couple weeks ago I did a Zwift B group century that meant nonstop, no break 2.8 - 3.2w/kg for almost 4 hours. GU every 45 minutes or so worked at first but I got kind of sick of those. So tried to eat real food without slowing down. And that’s super tough - I just can’t choke down peanut butter toast or a snickers or whatever in the middle of a ride without slowing down. So that’s what I’m looking for alternative fueling solutions for - water with carbs, gu that doesn’t taste awful after a few hours, etc.
It took approx 3 weeks ,but I finally finished my garage Zwift and bike space. Garage had the drywall tape and first coat of mud. I did two more coats of mud, then primer and paint. Cheap carpet ($100)and strategically placed plug strips. The hardest part was the constant moving of stuff/boxes to get to the next section to work.
Done, I can finally join you guys this Tuesday.

Lookin' good, have you considered a massive Griz stenciled pawprint on the wall? :)
I am a Griz fan, but not quite a fanatic.

Thanks guys. It has been in the planning stage even prior to building the house. Nice to finally get to a finished product. Just need to trim out the windows and get some white paint on the door and trim.
