Saw this one today. Almost all stock, except the tent, and an air-cooled engine rebuild. Tempted, but my spidey sense said no. Would make a great restoration project for someone with more time than me.

I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on an Eurovan Westy. Someone here should convince me not to. I owned a Vanagon Westy for nearly 20 years so I should know better.
Can you throw a subie or a porche engine in it? If so, then do it. I was thinking about this thread recently when I rolled by "Bus Camp" at BM. I've met and seen them before, but the spectacle of seeing almost 60-70 completely varied buses camped together made me tear up.
Eurovan has a front engine and it’s a V6. It’s actually a really solid engine. I have no idea why or how you’d change to horizontally opposed four cylinder designed for rear engine/rear wheel drive

The issues with a rear engine Vanagon and a front engine Eurovan are totally different. No longer does the EV have 75’ of coolant line, an aluminum head sitting on an iron block, etc. If the EV is in good condition and is priced well, Inwouldnt let the issues with a vanagon hold you back.
Wish I had never given my wife the Eurovan in the divorce. Great vehicle in snow with winter tires. Ride was great, I think I usually go around 25 mpg. I’m 6’5” and with the middle row of seats removed I could throw down a pad and sleep on the floor. Great for lunch in the lot and great for changing before hitting the slopes.

It gets better mileage that way.

I was pretty lucky with the cooling system in my Vanagon. It was a manual Weekender, so I usually tried to keep it pretty light running around town and would try and be easy on it fully loaded.
Singlecross, I ran those BF Goodrich’s on it with the black steelies, no hub caps. Got lots of compliments and those tires are worth the coin, mostly due to the stiff sidewalls. Tightened the sway up for me, which probably isn’t so bad without the poptop lid riding so high.
Test drove another EV this week. It was a ‘93 with a manual. Very nostalgic riding around in it. The smells, the feel of sitting over the wheels, the manual tranny, it all took me right back. Just not sure I want to go back there.
My ‘85 westy wolfsburg I bought for $3,500 and drove for more than 15 years and sold it for $3,500, BUT - it would be the same problem as this ‘93. Bought cheap with some surface rust already starting, not quite nice enough to be worth a real renovation and I don’t have the place to do paint and body justice.
I’m leaning towards one of two options locally, later models both early ‘00’s. Both autos. Both paint matched top to body and ground effects that have been mostly garaged. At least when they blow a tranny it’s worth replacing. I’ll drop some photos if I pull the trigger. Kinda funny that every one I go see has the same things broken or missing, like the poptop latch. A quick TheSamba search reveals you can use a Passat hood latch, but evidently no one has the internet any more 🙄
