Spot on with the autonomous cars. The cause is pretty irrelevant. You get more congestion the more exits, hills and turns you have. Whether its stupidity and inattentiveness (ZOMG! its a turn, better slam the brakes and get 'er down to 25mph or risk roll over; or, OH, this is a HILL?! Oh, I'm going 25mph, better slam the throttle wide open, that kind of shit) or selfishness (pulling across 2 lanes to get around the car in front of you as you're both getting on, slowing down in the middle lane to let cars around on the right so you can cut across two lanes to exit late) it doesn't matter, it just happens. And, once you've got so many fucking cars on the road, it basically only takes one or two assholes per several miles to ruin it for everybody. Its basically just congestion, no matter the cause, as it relates to what the human driver is thinking or not thinking. Just lots of human drivers. We'd be way better drivers if we could communicate using our minds alone.

Exactly. You can get away with dumb drivers to some extent when there are few vehicles on the road... but if you have *lots* of cars, you're asking for trouble.

Autonomous cars will fix this issue.

I'm merely pointing out that the actual traffic jam is a result of people not being able to efficiently drive their vehicles.

Grand Ave bridge closure/replacement in effect. If you're running I-70 (or SH82 for that matter) be mindful of when you do so.

An overdue project to be sure, but mercy .. what a goat rope.

Be interesting to see what effect (if any) this has on indy, cottonwood, eagle/thomasville, etc.

Robot cars - i think we'll be waiting a while? I had to yell at my rental car for 20 minutes for directions to the fucking airport.
There are always opportunities for more efficiency, but this is primarily a "10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag" problem.

I'll be using Cottonwood when I make a Costco run. Other than that, I'll try to use Indy as much as possible.

Hopefully GR will keep it open as long as possible?

Ahh... the "don't you dare take a semi on this road" Cottonwood... I've not driven it. I'd personally go over Crooked Creek to get the RF. :D

Buddy of mine took a 26' trailer over it last week. I don't know if I would try that.

about 95 days per CDOT. McClure the only other option into the valley for full size CMV.

I'd avoid Cottonwood in anything other than passenger vehicles. Stuck trucks/trailers there are a real mess.

We've gone round and round on that, GWS was pushing for that after the last big rockfall closed I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. CDOT doesn't have the resources to pick it up from Eagle and GarCo. Eagle wanted nothing to do with the $40M+ to get it up to a standard that could have full size semis pass each other.

I take it to Costco all the time, it certainly get's used a lot by passenger cars, but I drive the jeep, not the audi across it.

And I actually think there may be 3 Cottonwood passes, but yeah.

We are allowing employees to camp up here, and have altered our hours for several departments so we can get our CO river valley folks to and fro work at less peak times. Sorely needed project. Can't believe how much demo they have gotten done already.

been watching this project, it is a very very well run job, there is a lot of heavy mangment going on there and they are killing it, tight space, time limits, center of a total cluster fuck of a town

They've, from where I sit, been doing a pretty good job. It's a difficult project for all the reasons you state. There are things I'd have done differently, that I'll comment on when everything is done.
