AprilAire E070 has been ordered. Now id like to figure out additional air filtration. Anyone got any good suggestions? There's a pottery studio in the back room. I want to keep the filtration inlet down low to the floor to avoid sucking dust past our faces. Air cleaner brands that can handle a lot of fine dust? How to compliment the dehumidifier? Other side of room by the studio or over by the dehumidifier which is on the opposite side? Inline solutions? Previously the only filtration was the two stage system on the old dehumidifier comprised of a washable prefilter and a replaceable merv-11 filter and it was therefore sucking across the main basement. The new unit only has a washable merv-8. Obviously keeping the dust under control should improve the lifespan of the dehumidifier. But I also want to make sure that its getting proper inflow to keep from stressing it.
You could DIY a very effective and cheap one:

otherwise I hear the spendy Dyson ones are pretty good
The thought had crossed my mind. However, it needs to run a lot and I dont want to burn my house down if the fan catches on fire. And if it does, I want some recourse. Although, a simple timer and running such a contraption intermittently might fix that. I admittedly haven't watched the video, so maybe they suggest that very thing. It only needs to take some of the load off the dehumidifier filter. I was also half interested in being able to attach flexible ducting to any solution. Hopefully the E070 is easy to clean out, im already going to have to exceed the recommended cleaning intervals.
So I forgot to order risers. Heh. But im riser4, I dont need no stinkin risers! Walder is shopping the dehumidifier for free, but wanted $12 to ship the risers separately. FTN. I went on Amazon to make use of free Prime shipping. Here's a great review and I probably will just buy cinder blocks.
Not worth it - get cinder blocks or something else

Product came damaged, sticky pads on cones didnt even line up with the top of the cones. Figured I’d look past that and still use them. Set them up in crawl space, tried leveling ground multiple times but still a wobble with these cones even after adjusting leveling feet on Aprilaire dehumidifier. Bought a few cinder blocks from Home Depot that not only are much more stable but also look better. Save yourself the money and just use cinder blocks ! Cheap plastic cones
Damn. I've run 2 box fans in window for overnight summer cooling for 40+ years. Last 10 years a box fan with a hepa filter in smoke season in a closed bedroom overnight. Guess I'm lucky to be alive. but Don't be a moron using a pos fan or wire and you'll be good.
Sweet kinda giving people die every day. Why don't Trump and Putin?

I was just curious. Our household stance on fans is based on murky recollections of old news stories. And since the DIY filter system restricts air flow, which can lead to the motor working harder, it is worth at least being aware of. I suppose doing some calculations could give a better idea of weather or not the air flow drop is actually going to be a concern. The TOH video did state reduced air flow leading to fan motor issues as a reason not to slap a higher rated filter in a system not designed for it.
Spray paint a cheap China fan gold and give it as a gift?
A cheap gold-plated piece of shit that blows hot air? Who could possibly want that? Oh wait.
Hahaha :)
Ceiling fans esp old bathroom fans can be a real problem. Ppl don't give them two thoughts but they get used a lot and never cleaned or checked and next thing you know you've got a fire. Like the lint build up in your dryer they should be regularly serviced IMO. Had an electrician friend lecture me on the dangers one time when he noticed the old fan in a house he was working on for me.
I see a lot of ppl use standard box fans in barns. So freaking dangerous. They make fans specific for that application that have enclosed motors to protect against dust and dry matter build up. If you need a fan for a barn or somewhere similar get a proper one.
KQ rocks. Thanks for putting up with us degens.
I’m getting ads in my social feeds for a new “adventure van” company with a lot of snowboarding cutaways, I’m assuming to convey the brand’s rad image. It also says financing available, and is only 5 years late to the work from anywhere party, just as mandatory return to office orders are going out. The name of this outfit? Ötzi. I thought you should know.
Social media annoys me.

What are the chances my cat has tried to drink out of any glass of water i have left on my desk, counter, etc?
All signs point to yes.
