Technically it’s not a disease until you have symptoms. Every STD is an STI that showed itself.

That’s what I was thinking, probably an effort to be more accurate in the nomenclature.
During the greatest period of over use of antibiotic treatment, some bacterial infections were rampant, like chlamydia. But, they rarely became symptomatic before a pt. was prescribed antibiotics for an unrelated infection.
Maybe someone just said “I think there’s a better term for this shit.” Kinda like how the Emergency Room became the Emergency Department ……. because it’s not just one room.
It’s not like Big Nomenclature has a dark conspiracy to make people woke-er.

Well not every infection becomes a disease. Infections is a broader more inclusive word. If you get a STD you have trouble but if it's just an STI you still might luck out.
I'm not sure why we needed to broaden the term to include stuff that we don't actually have to worry about much. The worrisome stuff was covered by the old term already.
In case ya catch an STD from someone with an STI?
See I always thought disease was the broader term.
It's like Venn Diagrams mannn.
if someone has an allergic reaction to another person's sperm that's a STD that wasn't an STI

mammals can also get cancer directly as a STD (and not as a complication of first getting an STI)
