Keep kids skiing pass it down thread...keep it going

Another vote for something narrower. For the little ones you are more likely to take them out on days without fresh snow/bluebird days. So skinnier is fun for the few laps you might get during lunch break. And then, as has been said, when they start to make the switch to intermediate it is easier to demonstrate technique at lower speeds. And they do love those super tight, winding tree trails. You could go cheap park skis or use the situation as an excuse to get the low snow skis you’d like to have in your quiver. N + 1 in full effect here

This is the way. I know this because I have detrusor's old pair ;).

Short twins (with camber) is the key. Use a hula hoop and easily ski backwards in front of the kiddo or forwards behind them, both without hitting their skiis. Can even easily parallel turn behind them with hula hoop around them teasing them to reach forward. Super easy to get in close to assist kid with correct technique in getting up after a crash. Park twins pivot/steer super easy which is a bonus. Added bonus: stops human tricks for said child's entertainment easier on park skiis.

SL skiis suck for this application.

Why compromise? The is frickin tgr! Bring something else for the gunfight while toddler chills with mom in the bar and you go shred with the older sibling... or yerself.

Who shows up to the hill with only one pair of skis for themselves anyway ;)

But go ahead and debate all you want. Detrusor knows the road here. Just look at his girls ski.

Thanks for all the help guys. OK so maybe a pair of like 177 Volkl revolt 90s will do me well? Or I guess if I can find last year’s model for cheap I’ll just do that. Or do you think I should go even shorter? I’ve never had a pair of parks skis in my life. I’m so clueless about Park skis I need specific recommendations for make and model lol

I think the volkls would be great. I put a real tune on them not dulled out for slides.

And hell yes to the hula hoop. Go to Home Depot, buy a 10’ length of 3/4 per and a connector to make a huge hula hoop. Let the kiddo pick the color duck tape to wrap it with. My girls went like 3 days with the hoop and then were skiing on their own making turns.

OK sweet, throw away the leashes and get a hula hoop. Get the park skis and try not to die pretending Im 21 on jumps again, just having park skis doesnt mean my ligaments are rubbery again... Thanks gang. And heck, I’m only 5’7”. While my day-to-day ski is the race room 186 LP I think I might even go with a 169CM revolt 90.

Shorter skis are better with the kids in the hula stage the hazmats we have measure 167cm.

10 for pec is only about a 3.2ft diameter. If were to do it again I might size up the hoop to a 12 ft circumference... any larger woulf bea pita in a lift though.

My kids are teens now, but I didn’t change my skis at all when they were little. Longer skis can be a PIA, but if you know how to ski, you can manage. I guess depends on budget and if a shorter ski would fit in your quiver anyways. For sure shorter skis would be easier, but I don’t think critical. Honestly a boot with a walk mode was the biggest bang for the buck for me. Freaking Dad Sherpa everywhere. I felt like I was walking as much as I was skiing when they were little. A touring or 50/50 type boot made my life easier and these days the options are way better than they were 10-15 years ago.

More comfortable boots would be a huge plus. Living in the east with Littles has me sans touring gear. Good point.

That being said, shorter skiis are sweet due the Littles. Mostly useless otherwise.

The red ones are the biggest bsl 292

Look up the size range, they came in three size models. I believe the reds are the largest and blue and black middle.
The blue ones are newer than the black.
These are great because they adjust but the bsl stays the same.
The red ones had one of the rivets that attaches the upper to the lower fall out so I replaced with a screw and it's been fine
Soles all look decent.

These are free + ship - I used these when my kids were little: Salomon Foil 182, 124/87/115. Drilled once for Salomon 912s. Once for BD01s (6 hole toe).

Anyone have recommendations for a OTG kids goggle? My youngest is 4yo. I have a pair of larger kids goggles that I think will work, he needs to wear his glasses to see correctly. Any suggestions or recommendations on this? TIA! [emoji1365]

^^^ Just got my daughter Smith Daredevil which say OTG on the box. She doesn’t need her glasses for skiing but they do fit in the google - tight fit though.

Giro goggles all have the gap in the side to allow glasses frame through and worth checking out. A lot depends on the size of the glasses frame and how it sits on the face.

Love this chatter.
Started teaching my daughter at 3 last winter and then she exclusively wanted to ski with mom for a while so I forgot about how much my knees and quads were getting punished allowing her to use my thumbs as ski poles. Last week before her 4th birthday she wanted to ski with me again, and all I had with me in the truck were OG flat tail Enforcers, Woodsman 108s, and Rustler 11s ... went with the Rustlers because they were the softest and turniest of the bunch, and it still sucked, hah!
I'm gonna try out my waxless tele setup / 3 pin cable / Scarpa T2x boots for teaching her (but I really suck at tele), and if that doesn't work then it's look for old teenagers 167 cm park skis (I normally ski 178-181). Have the waxless skis always with me so that I can tow the 20 month old in our Chariot Cougar on the XC loops while mom is skiing with the now 4 year old ... it used to be skiing with him on my back but he's gettin heavier and I'm gettin older!
Great call on the PEX hula hoop and 12 feet not 10. Will fire that up, I can also use the PEX as spare parts for our RV since we are camped in the lot and running our fresh water system all winter long! Hah! Though RVs use 1/2" ID PEX, I wonder if that will be stout enough ...

I think I have a 2T Patagonia super loft down hoody, in red. It’s fast. I can check if helpful. My 4-yo used it for two years from 2 to just a few months ago.

It’s beat up but Patagonia will repair any damage, and even refill matted/empty panels of the jacket with new down.

Just FYI, it took over 6 months for Patagonia to repair a zipper on a jacket we sent recently.

Just got a jacket back 2 days ago. Took 3 weeks for a zipper replacement.
