Being an absurdly superstitious skier, I took it as a very favorable omen, that while I was finally getting around to putting the skid plate back on my Subie, in preparation of the upcoming ski season, it started snowing.
Skiya later....
Have they done the cash pass sale at a bar the past two (covid) years? I don't remember seeing it last year, but am likely out of the loop. A forced sabbatical has me thinking mid-week pass.
Haven’t seen any evidence for them doing it again this year. I’d hate to think that it’s no longer an option, and that they are only putting it off for another year. Keeping my eyes peeled in case they make a last-minute announcement, but it’s seeming increasingly unlikely.
On a more positive note, love seeing the snow dustings along the mountain tops. Combine that with the ski film showings last Friday, and my mind is often wandering while at work.

Mid-week pass purchased, bring on the snow. After working 32 years for the same company, I'm taking time to ski this winter. I might look for work in the spring.
I'll be up for turns with anyone.

Pass sale ends on November 7th, in case anyone's memory has lapsed.
Mine certainly has. Time to turn on the prayers for snow.
Hmm....I assumed it ended on SOS Sunday. Well I got my pass paid for there, and posed for a fine picture to put on it. Andy was at his warm and friendly best :rolleyes2, and Brad was even more inscrutable than usual, due to his mask.
Any opening rumors for the Bowl? Roommates or partners working up there with information?
I picked up my pass on Sunday and it looked reasonable. With this latest round of snow I'm hoping we are close.
Lost Trail announced a Thursday opening (I think).

No inside knowledge but I predict a noon opening on either Friday or Saturday.
It looked pretty good up there Sunday wehn I went to pick up my pass around 3. I think there were about 30 vehicles parked there who I assume were uphill folks.
I slid off the road coming down after picking up my pass! Sure was slick with the wintery mix and no gravel. Good times!
Friday the 17th is what I heard from a good source.
I was thinking late this week as well. I would be nice to get some turns and ski fitness started.
Alright is everybody in Missoula gonna hit LT thurs or should I just hit the wrod at disco? Even though disco is a ten minute drive and I have pass I still think I might just sack up and drive down to LT.

I'm saving my LT days and drives for later in the year. Which means it will probably be all time on Thursday.

LT will be packed and will likely have limited terrain open. Almost certainly chair 4 will not be a part of the festivities. 5 days ago they had barely any snow at all around the base, at least according to first-hand reports I heard.
So... How's it going up there? From the valley it looks like an absolutely gorgeous opening day.
Holy fuck it is been good up here today. Might be the best opener I’ve personally experienced at the bowl.

Hardly anyone up here today, aside from the usual core crowd of dedicated rippers and people blowing work off. Snagged seventh chair this morning, it was the first skier on upper Griz. Yeah there are some thin spots, but the coverage up high is really really good right now.
Legs are already screaming at me, so it sounds like a good time for a bloody Mary.

Looking forward to the weekend!
What was open, was bomber, but they were probably saving the bowl openings for the end of the day, and the weekend. I skied Mogul Alley on my first run, and there was enough snow there, that I think A-face should be better than it was last year after it was opened.
Certainly it was a great opener, but nothing compared to 2011, on the day after Thanksgiving, when the bowls were open from the get.
^ yeah the bowls were looking quite tempting from the bottom of Far East. Poaching them seemed a little too risky on day one, so I stuck with ducking the rope off paradise.

But man, it felt great getting back to the bowl. The weather made the entire morning beautiful up there.

Still a little thin down low...

...but the higher you went, the better it got.

Had to call it after the legs started giving out. Overall, no real complaint to be had over here. Yeah I had hoped for the bowls to open, but there was plenty to feast on throughout the morning.
Agree with the above, a great day.
I made multiple laps on Far Nut and Mid Nut. Good pow, little to hit bottom and just long enough to get the legs worked.
Paradise has the typical rock churn in the normal spots. I found the edges were better skiing.
Upper Griz looked tempting but I deferred to let the legs get in shape.
