This looks MONEY
It was good to see Tough Guy back in town and getting some air! Here's a few shots my lady-friend got of him pre and post air. The delay on the digi cam seems to have gotten the best of her again, but I think I'll have some sweet shots from my 35mm once I get the slides done. It was a good morning for taking pics.
I think he managed to clear MT's bomb hole in the lower left of the first shot. I like the second shot, right after impact.
green with envy. Now that I'm employed, I had to work.
What is this I here about lift served ridge coming 08/09? please explain.
Big daddy stumpy eh? Looks like he's sporting some new gear, new jobby must be paying him well. But there is no denying his dope ass hat.
btw - i can't believe all the pics, everything is filled into the point of looking unrecognizable (or have I just been away for too long?)
She's filled in pretty damn good.
nm, they're talking about slushman's lift. It's beacon and partner only
Actually on the vid they have posted they say beacon to load the lift, partner and shovel recommended. ? Seems a departure from normal ridge procedure...anyway it's about time. I left in 98 because it was too crowded I can't imagine what its like these days. Long overdue and should really help spread out the crowds. BTW f'n sweet lookin snowpack this year...and staying open an extra 6 days for "customer appreciation"...WHAT A NOVEL CONCEPT...helloooo soli!?!?
I notice griff n jim picked a pretty decent day for their billable hour videotour over on slushy's there, its a PR thing for bb afterall, its gotta look good ;)
we're tenative on a mid-dec thru mid-jan stay next yr- hope its good early again and I can spin some laps on that new thing- should be interesting & I like the mundy tribute in the naming...
enjoy the spring dumpages peeps, looks far from over...
Very very extremely happily surprised by this morning. And I didn't mind it one bit.
today was rad and so is this http://www.montanabeerfest.com/index.php
today was SICK. but no pics. i suck
I did one hike and spent the rest of the day on the lower mountain and it wasn't bad at all.
Gabe- I waited and lapped DP a few times but never saw you again.
Huh, that's funny - I took the liftline pretty much straight back down a couple times, hoping to catch you and meet up or something. Guess we were just out-of-sync.
Saw you again later from the Bridger chair, but you were headed home around noonish or something.
Ridge line looked pretty much knuckles-to-butts through the day, so I decided to pass on that. Surprisingly enough, the fat kid is a slow hiker and doesn't like to slow down the pain train. Shocking, eh?
Pretty hard to argue with how inbounds was skiing though, esp High-T and DP.
One interesting thing is that my usual favorite, Flippers, just isn't that fun THIS filled in. It's like I need some higher consequences for the line, now you can just roll down the whole thing in a somersault and you'd be totally fine.
It just gets better and better. Amazing.
I talked to some patrol today. They are seriously considering eliminating the partner thing all together, everywhere.
[Quote Patrol:] "we are all about getting rid of the bullshit rules."
Besides from what I have seen this year. enforcing it is virtually unpossible.
damn, I think I need a beacon and a bridger pass next year. over 400 inches now!
PS: lone peak was so awesome today, I slightly dislocated my shoulder. ouch. But seriously, it was awesome.
ummm... the telemetry (thanks jb) shows another 13 overnight for 26 total. I know it's employee day but is that shit right? I know it is not always accurate. Does anyone else see this?
thought I saw that at the end of yesterday- but then I got back to sticking forks in my eyes for missing a season like this one...
don't think Ive missed too many daily vids and the one from yesterday looks as deep as any Ive seen all year...
bet theres a skintrack goin up there already today...
trying to be in town 1st wknd in june for a wedding- maybe the corn cycle will be kickin in by then, heh...
lobstah- rode up the lift with the kid who rode with you the ride before. told him I was glad I didn't bring tele stuff because I'd be flailing like the kid below us. he said the guy he just rode with usually tele's and brought a snowboard. He said his name was Rob when I asked. Kept my eyes peeled but never saw you.
I think the partner thing is a good one. One of the best results of the partner / shovel / beacon is that it keeps people from where they do not belong. There are too many people who can get themselves into serious trouble in certain places. There's a good chance that people who ski the ridge often, even if they didn't plan on meeting someone, will see someone they know and can hike with. It doesn't stop the knowledgeable people. It stops the people who aren't familiar with the terrain.
Never Never land looks like an untracked dream until you ski 300 feet and get cliffed out.
they fixed the #'s. no new snew.
I was flailing with half a binding and 2 skis yesterday.
Gaper day this sunday apparently. spread the word
maybe this isn't the proper place to ask, but what the hell, I will be going to college in another year, and MSU seems to be the ticket, however I have been skiing targhe jackson and the tetons for the past 7 years,(since I was 11) and I really don' twant to get the short end of the stick, whats the best way to do this, I am thinking a season pass to brifger and then pre-buy like 10-15 day passes to BS and MLB, is this possible, any advice for hitting this place right would be great, thanx in advance!
Your best bet cliffhucker is to buy a 6 day Jackson pass for around $180. It's only 4 hrs away and there are always people heading that way. You can also renew it at the same price all season. I go to school at MSU and I skied Jackson more than Bridger this last season. As for BS and Moonlight the Big Sky frequency card is the best bet $35 day tickets to BS, and I think Moonlight has something similar.
Bridger pass + A/T setup, cliffhucker.
Yeah, the last time I came back from Jackson I counted on the road taking 4 hours--which it usually does. Unfortunately the highway to Ashton was completely blown over and closed, which turned into quite the predicament since it was already 10:00pm and I needed to go home to Bozeman, then be in Ennis at 7:00 the next morning. That was a long (short) night.
But yeah, your best bet is to get the Bridger pass just for convenience, and others depending on how loaded you are and what kind of skiing you want to do. The backcountry access from Bridger is going to be phenomenal next year if you have AT gear.
I'd go with a bridger pass also, there are always people heading up there, and you can go up after or between class, unlike jackson. Then I would get a pass to moonlight also if you have the cash, or at least a frequency card.
Sparknotes: Bridger pass and moonlight pass or frequency
that's why the lift lines are 30 mins on powder days and everything is skied off by 11 am. Don't bother trying to ski between classes it's easy enough to get tuesdays and thursdays off to go up to big sky/moonlight on the weekdays. Bridger is sick but if you're coming from bigger mountains it feels pretty small by the end of the season.
cliffhucker, if you've been riding Jackson/targ for 7 years, would you really consider making the commute to go back home every weekend? (of course you would, it's jackson.)
I spent 4 winters at MSU. 3 with a Bridger pass. The other season I spent with a tent. That was the one of the best seasons of my life.
Crazies, Beartooths, Bridgers... the amount of overnight BC easily accessible from town is phenomenal. (as it is down by Jackson of course.) Just pick a direction, north, east, west, or south, drive for an hour, park, skin, camp.
As a veteran, I'd suggest a bridger pass for those half-days/storm cycles, and a tent for the weekends/spring.
Do everything in your power to pull off tues/thrs classes (if it's just core, and you're not picky, this is easy) Then you camp 4 days a week like me and my bro did. We were full-time students who skied Fri-mon.
Honestly one of the most memorable seasons of my life was spent in B-town without a season pass. Just a reliable partner and a good tent. (a snowmobile would be better, however.)
elaborate on the 180 dollar six day jackson pass please. Is this specific to MSU, or available to other college students?
As I understand it the 6 day pass is available to college students in Wyoming and MSU. I helped sell them last year and they told me that they sell them at all the wyoming colleges and at MSU and I think in Idaho as well. The thing is they will only sell them one day at the college and you have to get it then, no phone or internet orders etc... People in Jackson tell me it's the best pass deal Jackson has. They sell the pass in October here and you just have to keep your eyes open for flyers.
or if you're 18, a junior full time pass is 320 at bridger
No dont get a bridger pass, it sucks here... and especially dont hike the ridge thats like the dumbest thing ever... Oh and DEFINATELY dont ski the new slushmans lift next year, thats going to be retarded, no fun to be had in bozeman at all.
Side note: Its april 10th and its been snowing all morning... other than the rando's breaking skin tracks up today, tommorrow is going to be deep and untra... , um i mean HARD AND CRUSTY.
This thread is tight and really making me miss Bridger. I left Bozeman about 5 years ago and haven't been back since, big mistake on my part. Gonna have to make a trek back to the MT next season, BTW...the Cheese Steak at the PB does not suck! Will give you some uncomparable gut-rot though.
